About The Position

IDOC is looking to hire a Child Development Aide to assist Correctional Counselors in providing direct care services to residents and their babies participating in the pregnant mothers’ programs, infant programs, and Infant Development Center programs. They will assist with the coordination and delivery of pre-natal and post-natal programming, care for and protect babies to meet their individual needs and participate in the orientation of all incoming residents of the Moms and Babies program. In addition, they will assist in interviewing, screening, and training potential individual in custody Infant Development Center workers and assist in coordinating community healthcare services by reporting and recommending services to be provided. Requirements

  • Requires any combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to either completion of two (2) years college AND one (1) year of experience OR three (3) years of experience working with culturally disadvantaged persons in a social service program.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Correctional Counselors in providing direct care services to residents and their babies participating in the pregnant mothers’ programs, infant programs, and Infant Development Center programs at Decatur Correctional Center.
  • Assists the Family Services Administrator in the coordination and delivery of pre-natal and post-natal programming.
  • Cares for and protects babies to meet their individual needs.
  • Participates in the orientation of all incoming residents of the Moms and Babies program by explaining the nature and extent of services provided by the infant programs.
  • Assists in interviewing, screening, and training potential individual in custody Infant Development Center workers by actively recruiting volunteers and training individual in custody workers and monitoring the delivery of services of workers.
  • Assists in coordinating community healthcare services by reporting on activities and recommending types of services to be provided.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
