About The Position

Tennessee State Veterans’ Home, a skilled nursing facility dedicated to caring for Tennessee veterans and their families, is seeking a Director of Nursing in Murfreesboro, TN. Consistently ranked in the top 3% for quality care according to CMS, the facility has been a leader in Nursing Home care for over 25 years. The primary function of the Director of Nursing is to coordinate Nursing Services in accordance with facility policies and applicable state and federal laws. This role involves significant supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and resolving complaints and problems. The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall clinical services provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Current Tennessee Nursing license as a Registered Professional Nurse in good standing.
  • Proven experience in nursing leadership roles, with at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Preferably with at least two years of leadership experience in Long Term Care.
  • Prioritizes and plans work activities; advises for additional resources.
  • Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
  • Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.
  • Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions.
  • Proficiency with Desktop/Notebook computers.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Point Click Care nursing software.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set resident care standards in accordance with accepted current standards of care to provide high quality care to residents.
  • Assess, direct and supervise residents’ care needs and assist in the development of individualized plans of resident care to include making recommendations for special rehabilitation programs, family involvement and the physician’s plan of care for the residents.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of nursing rehabilitation and restorative programs.
  • Assess resident responses to medication and treatments and make appropriate recommendations for nursing action to be implemented.
  • Conduct or participate in resident care conferences.
  • Direct, evaluate and supervise all resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary.
  • Conduct daily resident rounds and initiate corrective action and report problems to the Administrator as necessary.
  • Analyze Quality Indicator reports, identify concerns and implement corrective action to improve resident care.
  • Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action.
  • Responsible for analysis of resident incident and accident investigation reports to determine cause(s) and implement corrective action(s), when appropriate.
  • Responsible for the development of nursing service objectives and performance standards of nursing practice for each category of nursing personnel.
  • Direct and implement nursing service educational programs including, but not limited to, orientation and in-service for licensed and unlicensed nursing personnel.
  • Conduct staff meetings with all shifts for purposes of planning, coordinating and implementing nursing service policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate consistent management of nursing service problems, emergency situations, and initiate ‘lifesaving’ measures in the absence of a physician.
  • Responsible for nursing service compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Participate in committee meetings and function on committees as assigned.
  • Communicate daily with nursing personnel providing clear, concise information as well as specific assignments.
