The Clinical Director of Nursing is responsible for maintaining standards of nursing practice and ensuring quality patient care. This position involves planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing service standards and patient care outcomes. The Clinical Director collaborates with the Senior Director and Nursing Leadership Staff to ensure compliance with regulations and standards. The Clinical Director of Nursing actualizes the vision, mission, values, and balanced scorecard performance measures for Montefiore Mount Vernon (MMV). The position prioritizes Nursing-Professional Practice, maintains standards of the practice for nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and Nursing’s Social Policy Statement. This position is accountable to the Senior Director/AVP of Nursing for the overall management of activities MMV to ensure that quality, compassionate, culturally competent, effective, and efficient patient care is delivered in compliance with the standards and regulations of the Health System and Regulatory Agencies. Accountable with the Senior Director/Assistant Vice President of Nursing, Nursing Leadership Staff in a shared governance model to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate the scope of practice for nursing service staff, nursing professional practice standards, and patient care outcomes. This position is accountable for nursing clinical practice/outcomes and the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives, regulatory standards, and the peer review process. This position is also accountable for interdisciplinary resource management, redesign, and innovations. The position collaborates with the nursing and interdisciplinary teams to establish nursing quality, QI/Regulatory, and Peer Review responsibilities, as well as Clinical Practice responsibilities. A leader who knows how to turn Quality and CQI principles into meaningful improvements that nurses feel at the bedside, as well as utilize clinical resource management that focuses on the redesign/development of an infrastructure that supports professional clinical practice and processes in an evolving managed care environment. Key elements of professional practice redesign/development include practice standardization across the continuum of care. The role also collaborates across diverse disciplines on Nursing Quality and CQI initiatives, supports nurse managers, guides nursing teams through regulatory and quality issues, including Joint Commission and DOH readiness, and strengthens the culture of patient safety and experience. The role acts as an educator, implementation team leader, internal consultant, facilitator, role model, and change agent. The role translates data into real-world practice and fosters collaboration across departments.
