About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care, including rendering first aid, treating minor injuries and illnesses, administering medications, and operating emergency equipment. The position also includes health record maintenance, developing disease and accident prevention programs, monitoring specific patient populations, conducting medical exams, and managing health services programs. A key aspect of the role is promoting positive social skills and maintaining accountability for inmates and property. The Director of Nursing will also be involved in personnel management, including hiring, training, evaluations, and counseling for their designated shift. The incumbent is expected to perform other duties as assigned within their capabilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of approved School of Nursing and current license approved by the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • One year of nursing experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Supervisory and administrative skill are essential.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and evaluative processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of medical equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions from Nursing Protocols, Procedure Manuals, physician or extender orders.
  • Ability to establish and maintain health records.
  • Skill in relating to demanding patients in stressful situations.
  • Continuous sitting per shift.
  • Continuous periods of walking and standing per shift.
  • Occasional climbing stairs per shift.
  • Remaining awake and alert while on duty per shift.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs periodically and lifting up to 50-100 lbs rarely.
  • Frequently working on computers/tablets throughout the shift.
  • Frequent grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting.

Responsibilities

  • Render first aid treatment and assist the physician in treating serious accidents or illnesses.
  • Treat minor injuries and illnesses according to physician instructions or nursing protocols and maintain health records.
  • Clean and dress wounds, operate emergency equipment and provide follow-up nursing care as required.
  • Prepare and administer specified medications and drugs.
  • Assist in developing programs to prevent or control diseases and accidents.
  • Monitor inmates restricted to bed reset or medical observation.
  • Conduct cursory medical exams during inmates’ first 24 hours on site.
  • Conduct designated health services special programs as assigned.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Ensure all reports and statistics are kept and properly reported.
  • Assist in hiring and training employees, perform evaluations and counseling, ensure personnel responsibilities are met for designated shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
