About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) at NHC HealthCare Charleston is responsible for providing administrative and overall managerial authority for all functions of the Nursing Department, including care delivery activities and training. The DON is accountable to the center's administrator for the management of the Nursing Department. This role requires patient-focused skilled nursing experience in a leadership role, excellent communication skills, dependability, flexibility, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of the geriatric population. The position emphasizes utilizing the nursing process, continuous quality improvement, and problem-solving skills within a team-oriented, family-oriented atmosphere.

Requirements

RN – graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice nursing in South Carolina
Professional experience in the practice of geriatrics, nursing administration, and other related areas
Caring, compassionate, have a positive attitude and be a team player
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills in the areas of nursing administration, nursing practice, rehabilitation, and partner relations management.

Nice To Haves

Baccalaureate or Master’s degree in nursing is preferred
Prior experience as a DON preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

Maintaining clinical competency as evidenced by application integrated nursing knowledge and skills, leadership, and communication skills.
Utilizing the nursing process in assessment, planning and implementing care.
Exhibiting organizational ability related to workflow, prioritizing to meet patient care needs.
Practicing continuous quality improvement thinking and problem-solving skills.
Providing administrative and overall managerial authority for all functions (including care delivery activities and training) of the Nursing Department.
