The Director of Nursing is responsible for coordinating, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the nursing service department as well as its programs and activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the nursing care facilities. This role involves maintaining a reference library, developing methods for coordinating nursing services, participating in facility surveys, maintaining relationships with clinical services coordinators, developing action plans for systems issues, collecting and analyzing clinical outcome data, attending QA and A committee meetings, assisting in planning for resident admissions and discharges, serving on facility committees, determining and monitoring staffing needs, reviewing nursing policies and procedures, participating in the interviewing and selection of nursing staff, ensuring performance evaluations, assisting with in-service training, ensuring adequate supplies for resident care, ensuring medical and nursing care aligns with resident wishes and care plans, preparing and adhering to the nursing services budget, maintaining resident care information confidentiality, ensuring residents are treated with dignity and respect, and maintaining liaison with residents, families, and support departments. The role also includes providing education and in-servicing to facility staff.
