The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall management of the entire nursing department and staffing levels. This includes developing and implementing nursing policies and procedures, ensuring compliance, and maintaining resident safety and dignity. The role involves coordinating pharmacy services, acting as a liaison between the facility, physicians, and families, and working collaboratively with other departments to ensure excellent resident care. Budgeting, reporting, and staying current on regulatory changes are also key responsibilities. The Director of Nursing participates in quality assurance, utilization review, and patient care conferences, and assists with state surveys. They coordinate MDS and care planning, conduct employee appraisals, and handle disciplinary actions and terminations, while maintaining strict confidentiality. Direct resident care may be provided as needed. The Director of Nursing supervises and manages the ADON and the entire nursing staff.
