About The Position

The Director of Nursing for Maternal Child Health is a Registered Nurse who assumes 24-hour administrative responsibility for the management of the Maternal Child Health department. This role involves supervising, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and ensuring compliance with current regulations. They manage staff members within the department, consult with staff, physicians, and the Nurse Executive on nursing issues and policy interpretation to meet patient needs, and maintain performance improvement activities within the department while also participating in PI activities and formulating the department's budget. The Director also assumes house supervisory responsibilities as assigned, which includes responding to hospital codes, assessing patients, and ensuring appropriate documentation. This position oversees patient care for adolescent, adult, and older adult patients, and is responsible for the direction of patient care in the operative environment.

Requirements

  • Current and valid state license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BLS (AHA) Certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) (AHA) Certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current PALS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • A minimum of two years supervisory/management experience necessary.
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a perinatal nurse in an acute care setting.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required for all new hires after 1/11/2021.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes 24-hour administrative responsibility for the management of the Maternal Child Health department.
  • Supervises, assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the delivery of patient care.
  • Develops and implements departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current regulations.
  • Assumes 24-hour accountability for the departments.
  • Supervises and evaluates all personnel assigned to the unit and effectively utilizes nursing personnel and time.
  • Communicates with staff, physicians, and administration both written and verbally.
  • Assumes house supervisory responsibilities as assigned, including responding to codes throughout the hospital, assessing and charting, and following through with appropriate documentation.
  • Oversees the provision of patient care for adolescent, adult, and older adult patients.
  • Responsible for direction of patient care in the operative environment.
  • Manages the staff members in the Maternal Child Health department.
  • Consults with staff, physicians, and Nurse Executive on nursing issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in PI activities.
  • Formulates budget for the department.
