About The Position

The Director of Nursing Business Operations serves as a strategic and operational partner to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), providing leadership across nursing strategies, project execution, operational performance, workforce planning, professional development, and Magnet readiness. This role functions as the primary project manager for all nursing initiatives, establishing project teams, defining goals and success measures, and ensuring timely, effective completion of nursing projects, while also providing leadership oversight of nursing operations, ensuring effective staffing coordination, operational continuity and 24/7 nursing operations.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in business or healthcare administration
  • 5 Years of Progressive Project Management & Leadership Experience in Nursing or Healthcare Operations
  • Lean Training or Process Improvement Experience
  • Experience in leading teams
  • Expert in coordination of projects, establishment of plans and timelines, preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Expert in nursing and healthcare finance, preparation of nursing budgets, development of training and materials for nursing leaders.
  • High oral and written skills.
  • Knowledge/experience with Magnet, NDNQI, nursing benchmarking and analysis.
  • Experience with AI tools that support effective use of resources and throughput.
  • Knowledge and experience in execution of projects/programs over a system.
  • Knowledge and expertise in healthcare business and healthcare economics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of Nursing Operations ensuring effective staffing coordination, operational continuity, and 24/7 nursing operations in collaboration with Clinical Directors
  • Lead project management for all nursing projects, establishing teams, facilitate strategies, goals, KPIs and sees to completion
  • Develops and coordinates with CNO, strategy, structure and process on nursing outcomes, operational efficiency, nursing compensation, Magnet, recruitment & retention
  • Maintains nursing strategic plan and planning process
  • Maintains responsibility and accountability for effective fiscal management of department including operating expenses, human resource allocation, capital expenditure, revenue maximization, and financial statement analysis.
  • Monitors staff utilization and actively manages work design for fiscal accountability to budget.
  • Provide clear performance expectations, coaching and feedback aligned with organizational values
  • Coordinates & tracks data and analysis for all metrics that impact nursing
  • Develops with CNO and leads communication strategy, coordinates with Marketing & Communications, creates effective presentations with high impact
  • Develops with CNO and leads education, training, oversight of nursing finances, dept budgets, and ongoing performance
  • Supports and coordinates agenda and strategy of NEC with CNO
  • Develops with the CNO, Nursing Leadership Development strategy and content; coordinates developmental opportunities, establishes succession plan/professional development pathways for nursing leaders
  • Champions and promotes adoption, use and integration of technology in nursing
  • Establishes structure and processes for effective staffing and throughput strategies, use of tools and technology to optimize resources
  • Supports nursing professional governance structures with effective agenda management, communication tools, and project management
  • Supports the MPD and CNO in the development of the Magnet program requirements, reports and site visits
  • Coordinates and prepares board reports, business cases, ROI development, proformas
