About The Position

The Director of Missions and Outreach provides strategic leadership for Oral Roberts University’s missions, outreach, and service initiatives. This position is responsible for developing opportunities that engage students in local, national, and international ministry and service experiences while advancing ORU's mission of educating the whole person—spirit, mind, and body. The Director provides vision, oversight, and coordination for mission teams, outreach experiences, service opportunities, and related student formation initiatives. This role works collaboratively across Student Life, academic departments, churches, ministry organizations, and external partners to create meaningful opportunities for students to serve others, develop leadership skills, and live out ORU’s Spirit-empowered mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in missions, ministry, student development, outreach, nonprofit service, or a related field.
  • Experience working with college students and/or young adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop partnerships, and manage complex programs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and Christian faith tradition of Oral Roberts University.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in student development, ministry, theology, counseling, leadership, higher education, or a related field.
  • Experience leading international or domestic mission teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the University’s missions and outreach programs.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive calendar of local, national, and international missions and outreach opportunities.
  • Lead the planning, recruitment, preparation, training, and deployment of student mission teams.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with churches, missions organizations, non-profit agencies, and ministry partners.
  • Identify new opportunities for students to engage in meaningful service, ministry, and outreach experiences.
  • Ensure missions and outreach opportunities align with ORU’s mission, values, policies, and standards.
  • Develop processes for evaluating mission and outreach experiences and use assessment data to strengthen future programming.
  • Recruit and encourage students to participate in missions, service, and outreach opportunities.
  • Create opportunities for students to develop leadership, teamwork, cultural awareness, and servant-leadership skills.
  • Provide intentional preparation and follow-up for students participating in mission experiences.
  • Develop opportunities for students to engage in service locally and throughout the broader community.
  • Collaborate with University departments to increase student engagement.
  • Foster a culture in which students understand outreach and service as an integral part of their ORU experience.
  • Oversee the logistics and administration of mission teams, including applications, team selection, fundraising, travel coordination, risk management, and required documentation.
  • Develop and facilitate pre-departure training and orientation for students and team leaders.
  • Establish clear expectations and standards for students participating in missions and outreach experiences.
  • Coordinate with appropriate University departments regarding international travel, health and safety, emergency procedures, and institutional requirements.
  • Provide support and communication to students, team leaders, parents, and ministry partners throughout the mission experience.
  • Conduct post-trip debriefing and assessment to identify outcomes, opportunities for improvement, and student development.
  • Build strategic partnerships with local churches, ministries, nonprofit organizations, and missions agencies.
  • Represent ORU in appropriate community, ministry, and missions networks.
  • Develop sustainable partnerships that provide meaningful opportunities for student service and ministry.
  • Collaborate with academic programs and faculty when missions and outreach opportunities can complement academic learning and professional development.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and student leaders associated with missions and outreach programs.
  • Develop student leadership opportunities within mission teams and outreach initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and spiritual and professional development for student leaders.
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability measures, and performance standards for team leaders and staff.
  • Develop and manage the annual missions and outreach budget.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure responsible stewardship of University resources.
  • Assist with fundraising strategies and stewardship for mission and outreach experiences.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators related to student participation, engagement, learning outcomes, and mission impact.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for Student Life leadership regarding program effectiveness and future priorities.
  • Participate actively in Student Life leadership meetings, initiatives, and strategic planning.
  • Assist with University-wide events and initiatives as assigned.
  • Serve as a resource to students regarding opportunities for service, missions, and outreach.
  • Respond appropriately to student concerns and emergencies related to missions and outreach activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Life.
