About The Position

This role is responsible for translating National and Market Merchandising priorities into locally relevant strategies that meet the needs of the business and customers. The Director of Merchandising serves as a key business partner, influencing decisions, aligning priorities, and driving execution across cross-functional teams to deliver measurable business outcomes. This role is critical in ensuring stores have the products, tools, resources, and support needed to deliver exceptional customer experiences while achieving merchandising objectives.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive retail merchandising or grocery retail leadership experience, preferably across multiple banners, categories, or geographies.
  • Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience, including leading leaders and developing high-performing teams.
  • Extensive experience in P&L management, category management, pricing, promotions, assortment strategy, forecasting, and fiscal planning.
  • Experience leading large multi-category merchandising organizations with direct accountability for business results.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating vendor agreements, contracts, and funding programs at local and national levels.
  • Requires analytical ability and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of jacks. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees allocation of projections financial deliverables to Division Sales Managers in conjunction with the VP.
  • Monitors performance relative to projections and drives corrective action: Sales/Profitability & Co Op.
  • Assesses results of each department and total for the division.
  • Oversight of direct reporting functional groups: Vendor Funds Analyst, BDR Coordinators, and Reset Coordinators.
  • Solicits research, benchmarks, external and internal performance as necessary.
  • Chairs / attends sales planning meetings and weekly ad meetings.
  • Develops and drives merchandising strategy for division in partnership with entire Merchandising Team.
  • Attend key vendor promotion planning meetings.
  • Drives market branding campaigns/programs (consistent with Corporate) in conjunction with Marketing.
  • Oversees division/market research.
  • Reviews comments on current division performance from Division VPs of Sales Operations and assists and responds appropriately.
  • Partners with the Director of Marketing to monitor advertising agencies and programs.
  • Tours stores to assess overall implementation effectiveness.
  • Monitors competitor advertising, promotion, marketing initiatives.
