About The Position

This position supports the mission advancement of the YMCA of the Twin Tiers, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Director of Community Engagement is responsible for leading the Olean YMCA's community engagement, outreach, relationship development, and growth strategies. This position serves as the bridge between the YMCA and the community by cultivating meaningful partnerships, expanding awareness of the YMCA's mission and impact, strengthening member engagement, and creating pathways that increase membership, program participation, philanthropy, and community involvement. Working closely with the Executive Director, Association Marketing Director, Membership Coordinator, and Olean Leaders, this position develops and executes strategic outreach initiatives that connect people to the YMCA through authentic relationships, effective storytelling, innovative engagement strategies, and intentional community presence. This position is expected to spend a significant portion of work time actively engaging throughout the community, cultivating partnerships, attending events, networking, and creating opportunities that increase the YMCA's visibility, relevance, and long-term impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, marketing, recreation management, human services, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in membership operations, sales, community engagement, or customer service leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and leading teams.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial oversight, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to establish and grow relationships with community partners, businesses, and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong computer and technology skills, including membership management software and reporting tools.

  • Preventing Member Slips, Trips, and Falls training
  • Sexual Harassment Prevention for Employees training
  • CPR/AED/FA certification within 90 days of hire
  • YMCA business software training (Daxko, SGA, and ADP) within 60 days of employment.
  • YMCA Leader Certification within 30 days of hire
  • YMCA Team Leader Certification within first 12 months.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy that drives membership acquisition, member retention, program participation, and mission impact.
  • Represent the YMCA throughout the community by actively networking with businesses, schools, healthcare providers, nonprofits, municipalities, civic organizations, and community leaders, building relationships that generate qualified membership prospects and increase community awareness of YMCA programs and services.
  • Develop and strengthen strategic partnerships that generate measurable opportunities for membership growth, corporate memberships, program participation, sponsorships, referrals, volunteerism, philanthropy, and community collaboration.
  • Serve as a connector for community outreach initiatives, ensuring the YMCA maintains a visible, active presence throughout the region.
  • Spend a minimum of approximately 50% of work hours engaged in community outreach, partnership development, networking, or off-site engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Association Marketing Director, and Olean Membership Team to develop strategic marketing campaigns that support membership, programs, events, fundraising, and strategic organizational priorities.
  • Working closely with The Executive Director and Program Leaders, oversee branch social media planning, content coordination, and engagement strategies while ensuring all communications align with Association brand standards.
  • Maintain a comprehensive annual marketing, outreach, membership, and engagement calendar that aligns promotional efforts with overall strategic organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with Membership and Program Leaders to develop promotional strategies that increase membership acquisition, program participation, improve member retention, and strengthen overall engagement.
  • Analyze membership trends, outreach efforts, campaign effectiveness, and engagement metrics to recommend continuous improvement strategies.
  • Establish measurable annual goals for community engagement, partnership development, and membership growth, monitor progress toward those goals and the overall performance of the position and regularly report outcomes to the Executive Director.
  • Lead branch engagement initiatives that strengthen member relationships and improve retention, increase referrals, and enhance the overall YMCA experience for members, participants, volunteers, and guests.
  • Identify opportunities to expand community awareness through speaking engagements, presentations, health fairs, festivals, business visits, and other public events.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking outreach activities, partnership development, referral pipelines, membership leads, and community engagement outcomes.
  • Serves as the lead for membership sales strategies through relationship-based outreach, lead generation, corporate partnerships, referrals, and intentional follow-up.
  • Collaborate with Association and branch leadership to identify new opportunities for community impact, innovative programming, and organizational growth.
  • Assist in planning and promoting major YMCA events, annual campaigns, community celebrations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the YMCA by communicating its mission, cause, programs, membership opportunities, and community impact with professionalism, enthusiasm, and authenticity while recruiting, engaging, and stewarding volunteers who support community outreach, special events, membership growth, and mission advancement.
  • Serve as a Staff Liaison for the Olean Annual Campaign, actively cultivating relationships with donors and sponsors, supporting the recruitment and retention of campaigners, and leveraging membership and programming initiatives to advance the YMCA’s mission and community impact.
  • Functions as a Leader on Duty (LOD) as scheduled, working with the Membership Director for scheduling.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Executive Director in an efficient and timely manner.
