About The Position

This position organizes, directs, and evaluates the coordination of Medical Staff support services within parameters determined by the Chief Medical Officer. Provides liaison between medical staff members and hospital administration and staff. Establishes a formal means of accountability and reporting structure to the Board of Trustees for medical staff activities. Participates in the development of long range plans, goals and objectives of the medical staff and hospital administration. Assists in accreditation by the Joint Commissions and conditions of participation by CMS. Works with very little supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Five (5) or more years of management experience
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a healthcare environment
  • Solid computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong knowledge of The Joint Commission Standards
  • Strong knowledge of the CMS Conditions of participation

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Certification as Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM)
  • Strong knowledge of Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Policies with ability to make recommendations for appropriate and required changes as m ay be mandated by State and Federal regulations
  • Attend educational conferences and meetings associated with medical staff services and keeps up with professional literature; is a member of Leadership Team; serve on various hospital committees; participate in development/revision of policies as appropriate
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse cultural and socio-economic populations

Responsibilities

  • Manages the credentialing/re-credentialing process.
  • Assists responsible chairman/chief with probationary privileges process; provides privileging information as appropriate.
  • Assists medical staff officers and Chairmen charged with duties and responsibility by the medical staff Bylaws and Rules, Department/Service Rules and medical staff policies.
  • Orients new officers and chairmen to said duties and responsibilities.
  • Assists officers, chairmen, chiefs with general medical staff meeting reports; oversee preparation and distribution to the medical staff.
  • Routes actions/issues from meetings to appropriate person/department/committee.
  • Attends and records confidential minutes of such meetings or delegates such activities.
  • Orients new physicians to the medical staff and hospital; meet with prospective medical staff members.
  • Maintains and protects confidentiality of medical staff credential files, minutes and other records.
  • Arranges for orientation of new Family Practice Residents.
  • Oversees processing of applications for appointment and re-appointment to the Allied Health Professional Medical Associates.
  • Monitors compliance with Board mandate for professional liability coverage and other required licensure and/or certification.
  • Oversees duties of Medical Staff Specialist including the maintenance of current lists of medical staff membership and distribution to the hospital departments; medical staff data for various surveys; preparation and distribution of monthly calendar for regular and special medical staff meetings and arrangements for room and food as need for meetings; scheduling of medical staff meetings, preparation of agendas furnishing of pertinent reports/policies/correspondence; monitoring of compliance with the Board mandate for professional liability coverage for medical staff members, licensure and/or certifications.
  • Receives physician requests/complaints/concerns and follows promptly on such as appropriate.
  • Works closely with Directors of Quality Management and Health Information Management on peer review/monitoring of patient care activities of the medical staff.
  • Communicates closely with Wyoming Board of Medicine, State Board of Dentistry, State Board of Pharmacy and other licensing agencies.
  • Manages the scheduling of speakers for Grand Rounds and other medical staff meetings.
  • Provides operational leadership and has budget responsibilities.
  • Prepares Medical Staff Office budget; oversees orders of equipment and supplies.
  • Adheres to established leadership competencies, service standards and reinforces excellence in those standards with subordinates.
