About The Position

M13, an early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2016 with offices in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco, is seeking a Director of Marketing. This role is crucial for evolving M13 from an emerging manager to a leading venture capital firm by developing and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy. The Director of Marketing will align and unify efforts in digital amplification, network and community building, events, content, and network engagement. The position is responsible for expanding the M13 network, enhancing deal flow, and supporting founder success, ensuring that founders, LPs, and GPs understand M13's value proposition. This role offers the opportunity to blend strategy with creativity at the intersection of digital marketing and network/community engagement, with the possibility of being based in New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing comprehensive marketing communications and brand strategies.
  • Ability to analyze key performance metrics and adjust marketing plans accordingly.
  • Proven track record of aligning multiple stakeholders on a shared strategy and delivering large-scale projects end-to-end.
  • Evidence of successfully building, growing, and maintaining professional networks or communities.
  • Proven integrated marketer with hands-on experience across paid, earned, owned, and event channels.
  • Comfortable using AI-powered tools to scale efforts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Confidence to navigate relationships with senior partners and cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment that requires prioritization and the ability to say no to non-strategic activities.
  • Experience setting measurable KPIs and using data to refine tactics.
  • Deep understanding of the founder/venture ecosystem.
  • Prior work experience in startups, venture capital, accelerators, or comparable environments.
  • Strong preference for candidates who have amplified a brand from 1 to 10 at an early-stage startup.

Responsibilities

  • Learn, develop, and align the firm's marketing and networking strategy in partnership with senior leadership.
  • Define, build, and execute a cohesive marketing and network strategy, gaining buy-in from partners.
  • Lead brand amplification through digital marketing (web, social, content distribution, SEO) and in-person programming.
  • Own network growth by building and nurturing networks of founders, LPs, and GPs.
  • Develop and execute a network engagement plan through regular touch points via events, Slack, newsletters, and other channels.
  • Coordinate with the events production team to deliver high-impact IRL experiences.
  • Work with the technology team to track reach, engagement, and audience specificity, and explore AI-powered tools for automation and scaling.
  • Provide clear communication and alignment across departments.
  • Set clear KPIs and collaborate with the tech team on measurement systems.
  • Make strategic trade-offs, declining initiatives that do not serve the vision.
  • Communicate decisions to stakeholders and measure progress, adjusting tactics based on KPIs and feedback.
