Director of Marketing and Communications

JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTRE OF GREATER VANCOUVERVancouver, BC
CA$95,000 - CA$115,000

About The Position

The JCC is at a transformative moment with a comprehensive marketing strategy in place. This role requires a skilled, hands-on marketing professional to execute this strategy, build and deploy campaigns, manage digital channels, and optimize a lean budget. The successful candidate will collaborate with various staff to create compelling communications. A key challenge is sustaining member loyalty during a multi-year rebuild and relocation process, and then converting community excitement into new memberships for the new campus. The core challenge involves retaining members through physical disruption, building anticipation, and driving new membership for the grand opening of the new JCC campus. This must be achieved simultaneously on a lean budget through smart segmentation and channel discipline.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years in marketing and communications, with a track record of hands-on campaign execution.
  • Demonstrated experience running integrated, multi-channel campaigns from start to finish.
  • Experience managing or mentoring at least one direct report; comfortable being both a manager and an individual contributor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Comfortable stewarding a modest dedicated budget—resourceful, creative, and focused on measurable results.
  • Organized and self-directed, able to manage competing priorities without dropping details.
  • Collaborative by nature; skilled at drawing content and buy-in from non-marketing colleagues.
  • Confident using data to assess what’s working and make adjustments quickly.
  • Mailchimp or equivalent — list management, segmentation, automation, and analytics.
  • Social media management and advertising: Meta Ads Manager, scheduling tools, organic and paid strategies.
  • Website CMS: WordPress — content updates, page edits, basic UX improvements.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics and platform-native reporting tools.
  • Design collaboration: Adobe Creative Suite (working knowledge), strong design eye to brief and direct a graphic designer.
  • Project management: Monday.com or equivalent.
  • Adaptable to new tools and platforms as needed.
  • Must clear a vulnerable sector criminal record check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a membership-based, community, non-profit, or similarly complex organization is a strong asset.
  • Background in retention marketing, loyalty programs, or audience segmentation strongly preferred.
  • Experience executing campaigns tied to major milestones (openings, rebrands, capital campaigns) is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Jewish community organizations or similar values-driven membership institutions is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create multi-year marketing and communications timelines to implement the integrated marketing strategy, refining it as the organization evolves.
  • Manage campaign timelines, assets, and approvals across digital, print, email, social, and in-venue channels.
  • Build emails, schedule posts, update the website, pull analytics, and iterate directly within marketing tools.
  • Collaborate with a graphic designer to produce creative assets within brand standards.
  • Develop and maintain a segmented communications approach for different member cohorts.
  • Design, write, and execute incentive and loyalty communications to reduce churn.
  • Ensure members feel informed, valued, and connected to the JCC's mission during construction.
  • Develop phased campaigns tied to key milestones like groundbreaking, construction progress, pre-opening membership drives, and the launch.
  • Build community awareness and excitement through storytelling across all channels.
  • Work with development staff on donor recognition and fundraising communications.
  • Maintain and improve the JCC’s website (WordPress), ensuring current content and a strong user experience.
  • Plan and execute the social media calendar across platforms, including paid campaigns.
  • Manage the email marketing program end-to-end, including list segmentation, campaign builds, A/B testing, deliverability, and reporting.
  • Track and report on key metrics, using data to refine approach and demonstrate ROI.
  • Partner with program, facilities, and events staff to gather content.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to ensure cohesive fundraising and marketing narratives.
  • Translate operational updates into clear, engaging, and on-brand member-facing communications.
  • Review and edit written materials produced by other departments before external release.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and creative contractors.
  • Maintain and apply the JCC’s brand and style guide consistently.
  • Oversee approval, production, and maintenance of interior and exterior signage.
  • Lead crisis communications as needed, in coordination with senior leadership.
