About The Position

Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, now IM Houston, is Greater Houston’s longest-serving interfaith-based social services organization. Originally founded in 1964 as Protestant Charities, we’ve evolved to reflect Houston’s rich diversity of faiths and cultures. Our mission is to bring people of diverse faith traditions together for dialogue, collaboration, and service, as a demonstration of our shared beliefs. Our core services include: MEALS ON WHEELS/ANIMEALS, REFUGEE SERVICES, INTERFAITH RELATIONS, VOLUNTEER HOUSTON. The Director of Marketing and Communications is the head of the Communications Team within the Advancement Department at IM. This position is primarily responsible for creating communications and marketing strategy for the organization, managing all internal and external communications, and marketing opportunities. The Director is responsible for communications to a wide range of stakeholders, including but not limited to: employees, donors, traditional and social media, community leaders, public officials, and the general public. This position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and works closely with all IM departments as well as with the CEO. This position requires self-motivation and ability to work independently, while coordinating multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Creativity, strategic thinking, a proactive approach to internal and external communications, excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of accountability is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in marketing and communications.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, WordPress and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and adapt to change.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, assisting and call on team members as necessary.
  • Valid Driver’s license and auto liability insurance as required by law.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud Luminate, Mail Chimp, or equivalent CMS software, highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead public relations and media outreach.
  • Drive organizational storytelling across all platforms (print, video, web, social media).
  • Drive brand adoption across agency.
  • Oversee communications, including marketing materials, external and internal newsletters, print, video, web, and social media. Share in newsletter, print, video, web, and social media production tasks as needed.
  • Develop and manage the annual marketing plan.
  • Supervise Communications team, providing guidance, acting as subject matter expert in communications and marketing (including marketing technology), delegating tasks, and overseeing marketing project management for agency-wide support.
  • Drive marketing support and guidance process across the agency.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in WordPress, Google Ads, and Google Analytics, guiding and training staff, driving digital strategy, and optimizing website and campaign performance.
  • Create and oversee content, including newsletters, social media campaigns, videos, and multimedia projects.
  • Lead monthly e-Appeals and assist in managing direct mail campaigns with outside vendor.
  • Develop strategies to increase media coverage, including measurable goals such as three media pitches per month.
  • Act as liaison for the Marketing Committee, coordinating initiatives and aligning communications strategies.
  • Maintain professional growth and industry connections through active participation in PRSA and related organizations.
  • Analyze metrics and reports to guide continuous improvement and inform strategic decisions.
