About The Position

Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Director of Market Engineering leads Omni Fiber's Market Engineering Lead team and serves as the organization's primary technical authority for fiber design and vendor escalations. The role owns market-level design strategy, establishes and enforces vendor direction, and resolves engineering judgment calls outside standard design parameters. The Director ensures each market advances through design, permitting, and construction according to a clear, documented plan. The role holds vendors accountable to defined standards and coordinates with Construction, Permitting, and GIS on technical escalations and their associated impacts. This is a full-time, remote opportunity with regular travel for business planning.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience leading or managing a technical engineering team, with direct people-management responsibility.
  • Deep working knowledge of aerial, buried, underground, and fiber design and construction.
  • High understanding and general proficiency with GIS/Esri and CAD-based design and QC tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold vendors and internal teams accountable to technical standards and delivery commitments.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills, including the ability to represent engineering's position clearly to Construction, Permitting, and executive leadership.
  • Ability to make and defend high-stakes technical tradeoffs under time pressure.
  • Ability to distinguish general-audience information from confidential information and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and recognize which require immediate attention.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a reasonable driving record.
  • Willingness to travel for business planning meetings as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Market Engineering Leads and other technical resources responsible for end-to-end design ownership, vendor direction, and delivery sequencing in their assigned markets.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and career progression for the Market Engineering Lead team.
  • Serve as the primary technical escalation point for judgment calls beyond a Market Engineering Lead's decision authority.
  • Set program-level design intent and scope direction for engineering vendors, review first-pass quality trends, and hold vendors accountable to delivery and quality standards.
  • Partner with the engineering standards function to maintain and enforce consistent design standards across markets.
  • Approve go/no-go decisions and material scope changes for markets in active design or construction.
  • Coordinate with Construction, Permitting/PMO, and GIS to align market sequencing, permitting timelines, and build plans from a technical perspective, and clearly communicate fallout from technical decisions, field changes, or other program pivots.
  • Represent engineering's position in cross-functional planning discussions and resolve direction disputes between engineering and other functions.
  • Monitor market-level delivery performance, including on-time delivery, vendor first-pass acceptance, escaped defect rate, and cost-per-pass variance, and drive corrective action where needed.
  • Maintain deep working knowledge of aerial, underground, and fiber design and construction practices.
  • Review complex design tradeoffs, including cost versus quality, routing, and cabinet placement, and provide final technical direction when they have material cost or schedule impacts.
  • Support adoption and oversight of automated QC tooling, ensuring it is validated against real design outcomes before broad reliance.
