About The Position

The Director of Market Engineering leads Omni Fiber's Market Engineering Lead team and serves as the organization's primary technical authority for fiber design and vendor escalations. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role owns market-level design strategy, establishes and enforces vendor direction, and makes engineering judgment calls beyond standard design parameters. It ensures markets move through design, permitting, and construction according to clear, documented plans, with vendors held to defined standards and cross-functional partners aligned on technical decisions and their impacts. This is a full-time, remote opportunity with regular travel for business planning.

  • Prior experience leading or managing a technical engineering team, with direct people-management responsibility.
  • Deep working knowledge of aerial, buried, underground, and fiber design and construction.
  • High understanding and general proficiency with GIS/Esri and CAD-based design and QC tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold vendors and internal teams accountable to technical standards and delivery commitments.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to represent engineering's position clearly to Construction, Permitting, and executive leadership.
  • Comfort making and defending high-stakes technical tradeoffs under time pressure.
  • Ability to distinguish general audience from confidential information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and recognize which require immediate attention.
  • Valid driver's license and reasonable driving record, maintained throughout employment.
  • Willingness to travel for business planning meetings as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Market Engineering Leads and other technical resources responsible for design ownership, vendor direction, and delivery sequencing in their markets.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and career progression for the Market Engineering Lead team.

  • Partner with the engineering standards function to maintain and enforce consistent design standards across markets.
  • Approve go/no-go decisions and material scope changes for markets in active design or construction.
  • Coordinate with Construction, Permitting/PMO, and GIS to align market sequencing, permitting timelines, and build plans from a technical perspective.
  • Clearly communicate fallout associated with technical decisions, field changes, and other program pivots.
  • Represent engineering in cross-functional planning discussions and resolve direction disputes between engineering and other functions.
  • Monitor market-level delivery performance, including on-time delivery, vendor first-pass acceptance, escaped defect rate, and cost-per-pass variance, and drive corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of aerial, underground, and fiber design and construction practices.
  • Review and provide final technical direction on complex design tradeoffs with material cost or schedule impacts.
  • Support adoption and oversight of automated QC tooling, validating it against real design outcomes before broad reliance.
