Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of consumer and mortgage lending experience in a credit union, bank, or financial institution required
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership and supervisory experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of credit union lending operations, including consumer loans, mortgages, HELOCs, underwriting, collections, loan servicing, portfolio management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage all aspects of a lending department, including staff performance, workflows, policies, procedures, risk management, and operational results.
  • Experience developing and monitoring departmental goals, KPIs, and performance metrics while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state lending regulations, collections requirements, and NCUA compliance expectations.
  • Experience analyzing lending trends, portfolio performance, economic conditions, and member behavior to support strategic decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop policies, procedures, training programs, operational documentation, and staff development plans.
  • Strong ability to identify opportunities and recommend enhancements to lending products, workflows, policies, member experience, and organizational performance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, training, presentation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively engage members, staff, vendors, regulators, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors.
  • Ability to analyze financial, operational, and lending reports and translate data into actionable business recommendations.
  • Outgoing, highly self-motivated leader who takes initiative, works independently with minimal oversight, and assumes full accountability for departmental performance, priorities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Professional, ethical, collaborative, and member-focused approach to leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.
  • Possess an NMLS registration or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
  • Certified Financial Counselor designation required or the ability to obtain it within 180 days of hire.

  • Advanced certifications or professional development in lending, financial services, leadership, or risk management are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the lending team through coaching, performance management, training, and succession planning while fostering a culture of accountability and service excellence.
  • Establish departmental goals, performance standards, and key performance indicators that support the credit union's strategic objectives and lending growth initiatives.
  • Oversee all lending operations, including consumer, mortgage, and HELOC lending, including underwriting, processing, documentation, approvals, and funding, assisting and backing up the team as needed.
  • Drive loan production, portfolio growth, and member engagement while ensuring timely loan decisions and an exceptional member experience.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex loan requests, policy exceptions, and member concerns.
  • Monitor lending performance, portfolio quality, delinquency trends, and operational efficiency, implementing strategies to mitigate risk and improve results.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance lending policies, procedures, workflows, and internal controls to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with NCUA regulations and all applicable federal and state lending, servicing, and collection requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for new lending products, process improvements, and strategic initiatives that enhance competitiveness and support organizational growth.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, vendors, and third-party partners to optimize lending systems, products, and service delivery.
  • Prepare and present lending, portfolio, and performance reports to executive leadership and the Board of Directors, providing recommendations and strategic insights.
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning and represent the credit union within the community, industry groups, and professional organizations.
