Director of IT

brightfin
$145,000 - $150,000Remote

About The Position

brightfin provides clients with a suite of IT financial management and managed software subscriptions to enable your organization to rationalize, comprehend, normalize, optimize, and allocate spend to clearly show IT’s value in delivering revenue, services, and organizational enablement for the enterprise. Our goal is to shape a world where every technology decision is grounded in financial truth, operational clarity, and intelligent automation — enabling organizations to reduce total spend and reinvest in critical innovation. We are seeking a Director of Information Technology to lead three interconnected domains: IT Operations, Compliance & Security, and DevOps. This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the CFO, with broad organizational visibility and meaningful influence over how brightfin scales its technology capabilities. Brightfin serves a global enterprise customer base, and our internal technology footprint — spanning a complex SaaS portfolio, distributed infrastructure, and rigorous compliance obligations — reflects that scale. At the same time, we are a company where a talented leader operates with real autonomy, drives meaningful change, and shapes the direction of the function they own. Brightfin’s leadership has made AI a company-wide strategic priority — both in how we build our product and how we run our business. The Director of IT will be an active contributor to that mission, bringing AI-driven approaches to operations, service delivery, and team capability. The right candidate is less defined by familiarity with any particular toolset than by a forward-thinking mindset — someone who champions operational excellence, embraces intelligent automation, and builds teams and systems that continuously improve.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including leading teams and managing complex infrastructure
  • Proven experience leading IT operations functions in a SaaS or cloud-native technology company serving enterprise-scale customers or operating enterprise-grade environments.
  • Hands-on experience executing against ISO 27001 and/or SOC 2 compliance programs — including controls management, audit preparation, and evidence collection.
  • Experience managing a complex SaaS portfolio, including vendor governance, access management, and third-party risk.
  • Strong track record of building and leading high-performing, service-oriented teams.
  • Meaningful experience with DevOps concepts and the ability to engage credibly with engineering teams.
  • A genuine passion for AI and automation — and the practical experience to apply them to real operational problems.
  • Excellent communication skills — equally comfortable presenting to executives and working in the weeds with technical teams.
  • A leadership style that develops people, delegates effectively, and builds organizational capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire distributed, cross-cultural teams across multiple time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-growth SaaS environment where agility and pragmatism are as important as rigor.
  • Familiarity with enterprise identity, endpoint management, cloud security, and network security domains.
  • A track record of deploying AI-assisted tools that meaningfully improved IT or operational outcomes.
  • Prior experience owning or influencing engineering infrastructure in addition to corporate IT.
  • Experience working alongside or in support of a dedicated security leadership function.

Responsibilities

  • Lead infrastructure design, implementation, and ongoing management across a globally distributed, fully remote organization — driving a service-delivery culture grounded in responsiveness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Actively identify and implement AI-assisted approaches to IT operations, service delivery, and workflow automation — contributing to Brightfin’s company-wide AI-first operating model.
  • Oversee a broad portfolio of SaaS solutions spanning collaboration, productivity, security, endpoint management, and identity — managing vendor relationships, licensing, and technology spend with a focus on value, integration, and strategic fit.
  • Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and documentation that scale with the organization.
  • Mentor and develop a geographically distributed IT team spanning the Philippines, Ukraine, and the United States, fostering a culture of curiosity, ownership, and innovation.
  • Serve as a critical operational partner to the VP of Security, translating the company’s information security and compliance program into day-to-day practice across IT infrastructure and SaaS operations.
  • Own the execution of compliance-related controls, evidence collection, and audit readiness activities in support of Brightfin’s ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certifications.
  • Ensure that IT systems, configurations, and vendor relationships are managed in alignment with applicable security policies, frameworks, and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain rigorous SaaS governance practices — including access reviews, configuration baselines, and third-party risk assessments — that directly support audit and compliance requirements.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Customer Success to operationalize security and compliance requirements in a practical, sustainable way.
  • Champion a security-aware culture across the IT function, ensuring that compliance is embedded in how the team works rather than treated as a periodic event.
  • Provide consultative technical leadership to the DevOps function, guiding infrastructure design, reliability strategy, and developer experience.
  • Serve as a bridge between IT Operations and Engineering, ensuring shared infrastructure is well-governed, secure, and aligned with product needs.
  • Promote engineering best practices around automation, observability, and resilience.
  • Contribute to platform and tooling decisions with an emphasis on scalability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
  • Advocate for AI and automation capabilities that accelerate the engineering lifecycle.
