Hayward Tyler is looking for an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead people operations of the North American teams of Hayward Tyler (in Colchester, VT) and their subsidiary, Energy Steel (in Rochester Hills, MI). Since the organization is undergoing significant growth, the ideal candidate will have experience guiding an organization to reach the next level and beyond, background in manufacturing industry, and experience working in a multi-state environment. The next Director of Human Resources will be a strategic leader focused on building strong relationships across all levels of the organization, someone who effectively balances recruitment needs with employee retention, and is committed to building high levels of employee engagement. The Director of Human Resources is the strategic business partner to the President, responsible for shaping and executing the company’s human capital strategy. This role drives organizational development, shapes a high-performance culture, and ensures all HR operations (talent acquisition, compensation, compliance, employee relations, etc.) align with business objectives and continuous improvement initiatives. The Director of Human Resources has responsibility for both the Hayward Tyler site in Vermont and the Energy Steel site in Michigan and may reside in either location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field required.
  • 10–15 years of progressive HR work experience, with at least 5 years in a senior HR Leadership role.
  • Proven experience within a manufacturing organization strongly preferred.
  • PHR certification required.
  • Exceptional Experience applying continuous improvement methodologies (Lean manufacturing principles preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement new HR policies, procedures, and scalable processes.
  • Exceptional active listening, coaching, and conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Strong project management and time management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills; proven ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization (employees, management, and corporate).
  • Solid financial and operational understanding with the ability to translate management reporting into actionable HR solutions.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and modern HRIS platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • SPHR certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR vision, strategy, goals, and practices across the company to support overall business growth.
  • Partner with the President to cultivate an engaged, employee-oriented culture that emphasizes safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and adjust HR policies, processes, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to measure effectiveness and drive data-based decisions.
  • Direct full-cycle recruitment process to attract, interview, and retain top-tier talent across all departments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain compensation plans and benefit strategies that account for economic and cultural differences to ensure fair, competitive market positioning.
  • Oversee employment, placement, new-hire orientation, and personnel recordkeeping.
  • Ensure job descriptions and job duties are accurate, consistent, and up to date across the organization.
  • Guide leaders and supervisors through complex employee relations issues, career development planning, and performance counseling.
  • Assist leadership in conducting performance reviews and employee one-on-ones; monitor employee productivity, engagement, and performance results.
  • Develop and administer effective performance management, reward, and discipline models.
  • Design, plan, and implement corporate training and organizational development programs in support of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure company’s compliance with all current, applicable federal, state, and local labor laws.
  • Oversee employee safety, wellness, health, and welfare; ensure facilities are conducive to enhancing productivity.
  • Spearhead company-wide communications, oversee social committees, and actively reinforce core company values.
