About The Position

The Director of Human Resources at The Garland, an LA-inspired hotel, will report to the Hotel General Manager and serve as a strategic partner in shaping the hotel's culture. This role is a key member of the Executive Committee, responsible for ensuring the hotel's values are reflected in all HR practices, including talent acquisition, development, engagement, and support. The Garland offers guests an authentic LA experience with a retro-cool style, complemented by its onsite restaurant, The Front Yard. The Director will oversee all HR administration, including recruitment, team building, organizational development, associate relations, leave management, payroll, benefits, and workers' compensation. They will also recommend and lead training programs, supervise the Human Resources Coordinator, ensure compliance with employment laws, administer performance management and compensation, manage the department budget, and lead associate relations issues. This role is crucial in spearheading company culture alongside the Executive Committee and Ownership.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years of total HR experience, including responsibility for talent acquisition, associate relations, training, benefits, etc.
  • 3 to 5+ years of proven HR leadership experience, preferably in a hotel or hospitality setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Paycom
  • Spanish bilingual

Responsibilities

  • Championing the hotel’s culture and ensuring values are reflected in hiring, development, engagement, and support of associates.
  • Overseeing all areas of human resource administration, including talent selection, recruitment lifecycle, team building, organizational development, associate relations, leave management, payroll administration, benefits, and workers' compensation administration.
  • Recommending, evaluating, participating in, and leading training and development programs, and staying current with industry trends.
  • Directing and supervising the Human Resources Coordinator, and providing indirect support and management to leaders and supervisors in partnership with Executive Committee members.
  • Ensuring communication of and compliance with all policies, standards, and practices, as well as federal, state, and local legislation pertaining to employment law.
  • Administering standard performance management and compensation practices.
  • Developing and managing the annual department budget and ensuring effective expense controls.
  • Leading associate relations issues, including investigations, coaching/counseling, and policy advisement/enforcement.
  • Spearheading company culture alongside the Executive Committee and Ownership.
