About The Position

The Director of Human Resources manages aspects of human resources of the church in order to promote a positive culture in the organization; and provide expertise in the recommendation, implementation and management of the church's Human Resources programs, processes and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 5 - 7 years of progressive HR leadership experience, ideally within a faith-based or nonprofit environment.
  • Proven ability to lead with emotional intelligence, discretion, and strategic foresight.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR systems

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or HR certification (PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred
  • experience with HRIS implementation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Executive Pastor and other senior leadership to architect and execute a comprehensive human capital strategy that supports the church’s mission and growth.
  • Lead workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational design to ensure the church is positioned for long-term sustainability and impact.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner in change management, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
  • Direct the full-cycle talent acquisition strategy, ensuring alignment with ministry and operational needs while cultivating a diverse and mission-aligned workforce.
  • Partner with department and ministry leaders to forecast staffing needs and build robust talent pipelines.
  • Leverage the church’s existing learning management system (LMS) to coordinate and promote internal development opportunities, including leadership enrichment, skills enhancement, and career growth pathways.
  • Lead onboarding strategy and execution in collaboration with external HR partner.
  • Provide executive-level counsel on sensitive employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance management, and workplace investigations.
  • Partner with external HR resources to ensure timely and compliant handling of complex personnel issues.
  • Ensure enterprise-wide compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, as well as internal church policies.
  • Lead strategic compensation planning and benefits optimization to support talent retention and equity.
  • Oversee volunteer eligibility protocols, including live scan tracking and reporting.
  • Manage relationships with outsourced HR partners to ensure seamless administration of workers’ compensation, leave of absence, and onboarding/offboarding processes.
  • Serve as the internal lead for benefits administration, open enrollment, and policy development.
  • Spearhead the selection, implementation, and integration of HRIS, payroll, and application tracking systems to enhance data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Lead cross-functional project management efforts related to HR technology and process improvements.
  • Establish and monitor key HR metrics and dashboards to inform strategic planning and executive reporting.
