About The Position

The Director of Housing provides operational and community-focused leadership for the college’s residential campus. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Campus Life, this role oversees all housing operations (occupancy, room selection, and facilities coordination), selects and provides training for a 33-person Resident Assistant team, and serves as a hearing officer for student conduct. This is a live-on required role, with responsibilities to serve in campus on-call duty team. Oversee housing operations for a 1,200-bed residential community, including assignments, room selection, housing software management, and residence hall openings and closings. Support student success by managing conduct cases, resolving complex roommate conflicts, coordinating housing accommodations, and responding to campus emergencies through the on-call rotation. Supervise professional and student staff, lead training and development initiatives, collaborate with campus partners on facilities and student support, and serve on committees focused on student well-being and success.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of professional experience working in higher education, preferably in a liberal arts residential environment.
  • Understanding of and desire to work with traditionally underserved populations (i.e. first-generation college students, students from low-income households, students of color and/or LGBT students).
  • Excellent organizational and administrative abilities
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Compatibility with an environment focused on teamwork
  • Well-developed interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability to demonstrate an innovative approach to all responsibilities
  • Desire to discover efficiencies and improvement in existing processes

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate housing assignments process for a 1200-bed inventory including new student placement, the annual returning student room selection process, mid-year room changes, off-campus requests, and summer housing.
  • Serve as the primary user for the housing management software
  • Manage the opening and closing of residence halls across the academic year including break periods
  • Collaborate closely with the Facilities team to monitor building maintenance and coordinate communication with student residents.
  • Serve as a hearing officer for residential student conduct cases
  • Mediate high-level roommate conflicts and partner with campus partners to manage housing accommodation requests
  • Participate in the on-call emergency rotation, providing 24/7 response to medical emergencies, and students in distress.
  • Serve on the Student Success Committee and /Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) to proactively support at-risk students.
  • Provide direct supervision for the Housing Operations Coordinator
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of a team of student staff
  • With the Assistant Vice President for Campus Life, design and implement training programs for student staff
  • Provide supervisory support for 14-15 Resident Assistants
  • Other duties and committees as assigned
