About The Position

The Director of High School Program - Detroit oversees the implementation and management of the Academy high school program for Detroit members. This position ensures that programs align with organizational goals, effectively deliver the program model, and maintain high standards of excellence. The Director oversees the high school program, auxiliary services, program operations, co-leads local recruitment, manages the annual budget, and leads part-time staff members and consultants. The Director works closely with the regional director of high school programs, the senior director of programming, the National Recruitment Team, and the director of career planning to build and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders. Similarly, the Director is responsible for consistent and effective communication with school partners, parents, and cohort members. The role requires the Director to build and manage the local program calendar, including scheduled program sessions, recruiting, special events, and other key dates. Of note is that the role limited travel between the various program locations and college tours. In addition, the Director is responsible for collaborating with program managers to design and deliver curriculum materials.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of teaching, school counseling, or college access experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of adult management and supervision experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of artificial intelligence tools and emerging technologies, with the ability to effectively leverage digital platforms (e.g., data systems, advising tools, automation applications) to enhance advising practices, streamline workflows, and support student outcomes
  • Successful experience serving young people from resilient communities
  • Understanding of current trends and best practices in education and organizational leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with a diverse group of people
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission focus, and autonomous nature
  • Knowledge of regional challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization
  • Ability to work under dynamic, evolving conditions

Responsibilities

  • Execute the prospective member recruitment strategy and calendar across Detroit, MI.
  • Provide program and one-to-one advising for Academy Group Detroit members.
  • Collaborate with the national team on the successful rollout of the program model.
  • Partner in the facilitation of the local and national college tours.
  • Co-facilitate the Detroit Ladder Up process.
  • Lead the execution of high school programming that aligns with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with the regional high school program director to execute strategic priorities and goals for the Detroit high school program.
  • Establish and oversee policies and procedures to ensure program consistency, quality, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Manage and support the program delivery, including part-time staff, ensuring adherence to organizational standards and objectives.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders, including public and private schools, community organizations, and educational partners.
  • Utilize data to monitor program performance and make informed decisions about program improvements.
  • Manage program budgets, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure fiscal responsibility across all regions.
  • Practice and promote asset-based thinking with members, staff, and families.
  • Support a culture of academic and personal excellence by working with colleagues to develop and reinforce a culture grounded in pertinacity.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Summer Pathways Program.
  • Communicate with members, families, and the Academy team regarding member progress.
  • Oversee the management of members’ report cards and other essential documents.
