About The Position

Horizons Residential Care Center is seeking an experienced, creative, and compassionate Director of Habilitation Services (QIDP) to lead person-centered programming and habilitation services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring that residents have meaningful opportunities to learn, participate, connect, and experience an improved quality of life. The Director will oversee habilitation and active treatment initiatives, guide programmatic staff, collaborate with clinical and operational leaders, and develop engaging recreational, educational, sensory, arts-based, and community experiences aligned with each resident’s individualized goals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who understands that meaningful programming is more than keeping residents occupied. It should promote choice, dignity, skill development, community involvement, wellness, and personal fulfillment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, social work, special education, recreational therapy, rehabilitation, or a related field required.
Must meet the applicable qualifications to serve as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP).
Experience providing services to individuals with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities required.
Strong understanding of person-centered services and supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Ability to lead, coach, and hold employees accountable while maintaining a supportive team environment.
Strong program-development, project-management, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing operational needs.
Sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to develop productive relationships with residents, families, employees, volunteers, clinicians, and community partners.
Commitment to confidentiality, resident rights, dignity, safety, and quality of life.
Creative and resourceful approach to resident engagement and program development.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn required documentation systems.

Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, or program-management experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of person-centered habilitation, active treatment, and day programming services.
Develop monthly activity schedules aligned with residents’ individualized plans, preferences, assessed needs, and desired life outcomes.
Ensure staff have access to appropriate activity materials, sensory tools, program supplies, and active treatment resources.
Provide leadership and supervision to QIDPs and the Disability Support Professional Manager.
Provide administrative oversight to contracted clinicians and indirect guidance to Disability Support Professionals.
Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary team and contribute to individualized support planning.
Provide input regarding habilitation goals, recreational goals, communication supports, behavioral supports, skill development, community involvement, personal rights, and other quality-of-life indicators.
Collaborate with QIDPs and other interdisciplinary team members to identify meaningful skill-acquisition opportunities within residents’ daily routines.
Plan, coordinate, and participate in community outings while ensuring appropriate transportation, staffing, safety, and emergency support.
Collaborate with organizational leaders to plan, conduct, and evaluate campus-wide programs and special events.
Partner with Nursing, People Development, Compliance and Quality Initiatives, Environmental Services, and other departments to strengthen resident services and staff performance.
Support staff training and coaching related to active treatment, person-centered engagement, resident dignity, safety, and quality of life.
Incorporate appropriate sensory, horticultural, hydrotherapy, music, tactile, recreational, and other therapeutic activities into programming.
Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to develop meaningful volunteer opportunities and strengthen community participation in residents’ lives.
Build and maintain positive relationships with families, volunteers, faith communities, and other community partners.
Monitor programming effectiveness, participation, goal progress, and related documentation.
Provide personal care and direct resident support when operationally necessary.
Maintain a flexible leadership presence to support programs, events, outings, and resident needs.
Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
