About The Position

Metrocrest Services is seeking a Director of Grants & Compliance to serve as a strategic leader overseeing the organization’s foundation, corporate, and public grant strategy, as well as municipal contract oversight and institutional compliance. This role reports directly to the Chief Development Officer and bridges fund development and compliance operations. The Director leads the grants department, supervises the Grants Manager and external contractors, and collaborates with Development, Finance, and Program leadership to maximize revenue, manage restricted funding streams, and ensure the execution of institutional funding agreements. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in grant seeking, funder prospecting, relationship management, and public contract administration
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Proven hands-on experience managing, tracking, and reporting on restricted funding streams, including audit preparation and post-award compliance administration.
  • Demonstrated experience directly supervising team members as well as managing third-party contractors, grant writing agencies, or external consultants.
  • Proven success in cultivating foundation relationships that resulted in new grant awards.
  • Hands-on experience managing city or government agency contracts.
  • High level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), internet research, and Salesforce or comparable client tracking system.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex program models into compelling proposals.
  • Deep understanding of non-profit financial management, budget development, restricted fund accounting concepts, and post-award compliance.
  • Proficiency in CRM/grant management databases and tracking software.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and proactive leadership style with a strategic approach to problem-solving and partnership building.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills; professional demeanor and ability to build rapport and credibility with diverse stakeholders including funders, partners, staff, and neighbors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the organization’s foundation, corporate, and public grant strategy.
  • Manage municipal contract oversight and institutional compliance.
  • Lead the grants department and directly supervise the Grants Manager and external contractors.
  • Work closely with Development, Finance, and Program leadership to maximize revenue and manage restricted funding streams.
  • Ensure flawless execution of institutional funding agreements.
  • Proactively identify, prospect, cultivate, and steward relationships with foundations to expand the institutional funder pipeline and secure invitations for non-public RFPs.
  • Partner with the Chief Development Officer to align grant-seeking goals with the organization’s strategic plan and annual operating budget targets.
  • Lead the development, drafting, and review of high-stakes, multi-year, and complex grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and presentations.
  • Oversee the end-to-end administration of all city and municipal contracts, ensuring full compliance with scope-of-work deliverables, billing cycles, and program milestones.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for municipal contract officers, city department liaisons, and grant monitors, driving contract renewal and expansion efforts.
  • Ensure strict adherence to government regulations, reporting guidelines, and audit standards across all public funding streams.
  • Direct internal systems for tracking restricted revenue streams, ensuring precise fund restriction allocations, restricted expenditure tracking, and seamless reporting across all grant agreements and public contracts.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Program teams to monitor grant spending rates, conduct monthly/quarterly grant reconciliations, and perform internal audits of restricted funds.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and institutional records to support annual organizational audits, funder-specific compliance audits, and contract-related site visits.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Grants Manager while managing and overseeing any third-party grant writing contractors, specialized consultants, or agency partners.
  • Establish and refine standardized workflows, grant calendars, and management systems to drive efficiency.
  • Own all assigned metrics; responsible for achieving performance targets, tracking progress, and reporting outcomes to leadership.
  • Manage an annual budget and operating plan for the department.
