Director of Global Programs

More in CommonLondon, WA
Onsite

About The Position

This new role provides the opportunity to play a key role growing the impact of a leading nonprofit working on some of the most pressing issues in major democracies around the world. It requires a blend of strategic nous, entrepreneurialism, relationship-building skills and the capacity to deliver results. More in Common is a recognised expert in understanding and countering the dynamics of political and social polarisation. Our work draws on social psychology and public opinion research, involves generating new insights, and then helping leaders use those insights for impact. Alongside work that is deeply rooted in national contexts and led by country directors, we also create significant impact through global and multi-country programs. Our cross-country programs generate research insights, translate them into thought leadership, and disseminate and implement them across a wide ecosystem of partners and stakeholders. Recent work has produced fresh insights into public attitudes on immigration, online safety, nature and the energy transition, Ukraine, and democracy. As we look to expand this work further, we are creating a new role to lead it. The Director of Global Programs will lead More in Common’s global and multi-country work, developing, coordinating, and advancing initiatives that create value through cross-country collaboration. The role focuses on work that is more effective or fundable led by our global team than when pursued by individual country teams — for example, multi-country research and thought leadership, and external partnerships with international networks or organisations. It entails fundraising, building on More in Common’s strong existing relationships. It involves coordination with country directors and identifying where global programs can add to their national strategies. The role also involves representing More in Common at a senior level in conferences, roundtables, and bilateral meetings, including standing in for the CEO.

Requirements

  • Commitment to More in Common’s mission and values.
  • A track record of designing and managing complex projects, ideally opinion research projects, across multiple geographies or institutional contexts.
  • Experience of external representation at a senior level, including engagement with international networks, partnerships, and high-level stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and at least one of French, German, Spanish, Polish or Portuguese languages.
  • Significant leadership experience within an international or multi-country organisation.
  • Demonstrated success in global fundraising, including developing proposals and managing relationships with major philanthropic or institutional funders.
  • The ability to lead through influence rather than authority, working effectively with peers and country teams who have their own mandates and priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to synthesise complex information for diverse audiences.
  • Inter-disciplinary interests and experience, such as having worked in different sectors (business, government, non-profit), countries and roles.
  • At least six years’ working experience in such fields as public opinion research, public policy, political science, and international relations.
