About The Position

This role is responsible for driving Sigma's mission forward by building a stronger, more connected global nursing community. The Director of Global Membership will be instrumental in shaping and executing membership strategies, focusing on acquisition, retention, and overall member engagement. The position requires a leader who is energized by bringing structure and clarity to complex situations, with a particular focus on building and refining membership benefits, journeys, and vision within the first year. Collaboration across departments, data-driven decision-making, and a deep understanding of membership dynamics are key to success in this role.

Requirements

  • Fluency in membership, including understanding churn data, retention patterns, and the organizational cost of member acquisition and retention.
  • Expertise gained through experience in an association, fraternity/sorority, or other membership-driven organization.
  • Ability to lead with data, analyze membership dashboards, identify trends, and translate findings into strategic action.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across teams and navigating competing priorities.
  • Ability to challenge ideas constructively and find paths forward even with misalignment.
  • Influencing and strategic thinking capabilities, including selling ideas, building buy-in for change, and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders (board, members, colleagues).
  • Polished and candid communication style.
  • Ability to balance member centricity with organizational sustainability.
  • People management experience or strong readiness for it, including developing people and delivering results.
  • Ability to manage both operational and relational dimensions of being a manager.
  • Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity; ability to build structure where none exists.
  • Ability to hold strategy and operational tasks concurrently.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and addressing member service system inputs (tickets, inquiries, unresolved issues).
  • Hosting team meetings to align on priorities, escalate issues, and set team tone.
  • Pulling and analyzing membership dashboards, acquisition and retention trends, and segment-specific data.
  • Collaborating with marketing, chapter services, and other departments to translate data insights into strategic actions.
  • Meeting with director-level peers across the organization to discuss membership's impact on various functions.
  • Working with the Global Events team to ensure membership presence at conferences.
  • Collaborating with the chapter services team to develop recruitment training resources.
  • Conducting proactive outreach to members to build relationships and understand the member experience.
  • Developing and pitching new membership ideas, testing assumptions, and refining strategies.
  • Developing or refining member personas and onboarding journeys.
  • Managing the Global Member Service Center, including meeting with direct reports, monitoring service metrics, and problem-solving operational or member-related issues.
  • Stepping in to support member-facing interactions during peak seasons.
  • Clarifying benefits, mapping journeys, and establishing rhythms for the membership program.
  • Helping the organization establish a new membership vision.
