About The Position

This role is for someone energized by complexity, motivated by impact, and excited by building systems that help people do meaningful work together. The Director of Global Community & Belonging will lead the organization's chapter and regional ecosystem, focusing on improving how the organization supports belonging, leadership, and community at scale. The role involves strategic planning, change management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration, with a focus on analyzing organizational performance data to identify trends and translate insights into strategic recommendations. The Director will work closely with volunteer leaders and governance bodies, ensuring chapter and regional priorities align with broader organizational goals, while also staying close enough to operations to understand and remove barriers. The ultimate goal is to evolve the chapter and regional ecosystem into something stronger, more sustainable, and more human.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience leading chapter, membership, volunteer, regional, or field-based programs within an association, nonprofit, higher education institution, healthcare organization, or similar environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and managing large-scale operational, governance, or engagement frameworks across multiple geographic locations, chapters, affiliates, or regions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational initiatives that require strategic planning, change management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience analyzing organizational performance data to identify trends and translate insights into strategic recommendations.
  • Experience working with volunteer leaders, boards, committees, councils, or governance bodies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and influence across diverse stakeholder groups without relying solely on direct authority.
  • Experienced people leader who can move fluidly between strategic and operational levels.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing complexity and ambiguity simultaneously.
  • Vision, patience, and collaborative instincts to help an organization evolve its chapter and regional ecosystem.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or CAE credential.
  • Experience creating consistency without removing local flexibility.
  • Experience within a global membership association, professional society, or healthcare organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead one-on-ones with the Chapter Services Manager and Regional Operations Manager to understand emerging themes, operational friction points, and opportunities.
  • Review chapter health indicators, regional performance trends, volunteer engagement patterns, and operational data to identify system opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with organizational leaders across Membership, Member Development, Learning & Development, Communications, and executive leadership to ensure alignment of priorities.
  • Partner closely with volunteer leaders and governance bodies, translating organizational priorities into practical and empowering models.
  • Join calls with high-profile volunteer leaders, review escalation trends, and help remove barriers for teams.
  • Document emerging themes, shape future priorities, and ensure continuous improvement in supporting belonging, leadership, and community at scale.
  • Lead managers and teams in a way that builds capability, not dependency.
  • Manage complexity and ambiguity, absorb information quickly, identify systemic patterns, and translate competing priorities into clear and actionable direction.
