Director of FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis)

Code Metal•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

The Director of FP&A owns Code Metal’s forward-looking financial planning, forecasting, capital allocation, and performance measurement across its commercial and government business lines, which have different economics. The role builds and operates the company’s planning engine, turns analysis into decisions with the executive team and board, and supports fundraising and M&A. It is hands-on: the Director will initially build financial models and the operating cadence before building an FP&A team over time. The Director reports to the Head of Finance and works closely with the Controller, GTM, Contracts/BD, and department leaders. The position also builds scalable planning infrastructure that connects key systems and data, and evaluates planning tools as the company grows.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, investment banking, or corporate development, including ownership of a company-level plan.
  • Experience planning for a government contracting business, including backlog, indirect rates, contract types, and pricing.
  • Advanced three-statement and driver-based modeling skills.
  • Ability to turn analysis into clear recommendations for executives, rather than only producing dashboards.
  • Comfort building from scratch with imperfect data.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial software and services experience; experience in both commercial software/services and government contracting is ideal.
  • Board- and investor-facing experience.
  • Fundraising or M&A support experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own the annual operating plan, rolling forecasts, and long-range model across commercial and government business lines.
  • Build revenue forecasts using commercial bookings and sales capacity, as well as government-contracting backlog, weighted pipeline, and contract-type phasing (FFP, T&M, and cost-type).
  • Partner with the Controller on indirect-rate forecasting and with Contracts/BD on proposal pricing and wrap rates.
  • Define and maintain company KPIs, including Revenue/Bookings/Backlog, book-to-bill, backlog coverage, margin by product and contract type, and operating leverage.
  • Deliver monthly budget-versus-actual analysis and explain the factors driving variances.
  • Build department- and program-level reporting to help leaders manage spend and headcount.
  • Own 13-week and long-range cash forecasting, runway planning, and related analyses.
  • Develop board and investor materials, including fundraising models, dilution scenarios, and data-room support.
  • Model investment cases for new products, facilities and compute buildouts, and pricing; track results against the original case after decisions are made.
  • Run scenario planning for uncertainties such as award timing, hiring pace, and capital needs.
  • Build scalable planning infrastructure connecting key systems and data, such as CRM, GL, and HR data, and evaluate planning tools as complexity grows.
  • Build and lead the FP&A team over time.

Benefits

  • Health care plan with 100% premium coverage, including medical, dental, and vision.
  • 401(k) with 5% matching.
  • Paid time off, including uncapped vacation, sick time, and public holidays.
  • Flexible hybrid or remote work arrangement.
  • Relocation assistance for qualifying employees.
  • Pay intended to be at the upper end of the salary range, depending on experience.
