About The Position

The Director of Fleet Scheduling provides vision and strategic leadership for the Scheduling Department. This role ensures that flight schedules align with organizational goals, optimize aircraft and crew availability, and deliver a high-quality experience for internal and external stakeholders. The director is accountable for developing department-level strategies, managing budgets and resources, mentoring Scheduling Managers, and overseeing continuous improvement initiatives. Successful candidates will foster innovation, maintain strong cross-functional relationships, and lead the team through irregular operations while meeting customer and operational standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, aviation management, logistics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least five years of progressive management experience in airline or aviation operations, with a strong track record of leadership in scheduling, operations control, or similar functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of scheduling processes, aircraft operations, and resource management.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage risk in a high-tempo environment.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with industry-standard scheduling tools.
  • Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic goals and objectives for the scheduling function; align the department s strategy with overall corporate goals.
  • Provide clear vision and direction to the Scheduling Managers, promoting innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor industry trends and adapt scheduling strategies to remain competitive and efficient.
  • Prepare and manage the department s operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor expenses, implement cost-control measures, and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with finance to ensure accurate reporting and forecasting.
  • Lead the design and optimization of flight schedules based on demand, aircraft availability, crew staffing, maintenance requirements, and commercial considerations.
  • Coordinate scheduling with maintenance planning and engineering teams to ensure aircraft availability.
  • Liaise with crew logistics and flight operations to ensure proper staffing and adherence to operational standards.
  • Facilitate recovery of flight schedules during irregular operations and minimize disruptions to customer itineraries.
  • Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of Scheduling Managers and schedulers, setting clear goals and performance expectations.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative environment that encourages open communication and cross-functional cooperation.
  • Identify training needs and implement programs to enhance staff skills and professional growth.
  • Address personnel issues and promote a culture of respect, accountability, and ethical behavior.
  • Identify and assess potential operational risks related to scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risk and prepare contingency plans for irregular operations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment and coordination in risk management efforts.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on scheduling performance and key initiatives, and present them to senior leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to ensure alignment and collaboration on cross-functional initiatives.
  • Synthesize complex information into clear and concise reports and presentations, using data visualization and storytelling techniques.
  • Partner with maintenance control, flight control (dispatch), crew logistics, customer service, and sales to ensure schedules are viable and customer requirements are met.
  • Communicate schedule availability and constraints to sales and client services teams, highlighting VIP needs and special requirements.
  • Support commercial initiatives by optimizing aircraft utilization and moving aircraft from high-cost airports when necessary.
