About The Position

We are seeking a Director of Fiscal Transparency to join our Office of Finance and Administration team at the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). This position follows a hybrid work model. Onsite presence will be required when business or operational needs are best supported in person, such as collaboration, training, or work that requires access to onsite resources. This may involve in-person meetings, presentations to the legislature, or district visits. Travel is required, and the frequency of travel will vary and cannot be predetermined. A driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, a personal vehicle, or an alternative means of transportation are required. This position is exempt from overtime and frequently exceeds a 40-hour work week, often extending into evenings and weekends. It may require extended hours during legislative sessions, audit cycles, or system implementation phases. Employees approved to work remotely must have a reliable and secure internet connection and maintain a professional work environment that supports productivity. While working remotely, employees are expected to maintain the same level of performance, responsiveness, communication, and availability as they would in the office.

Requirements

  • Seven years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience; OR four years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • A driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, a personal vehicle, or an alternative means of transportation are required.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Applicants who require VISA sponsorship will not be considered at this time.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic initiatives, establishing organizational priorities, performance measures, and long-term plans, while leading teams and resources to achieve measurable outcomes within complex public, governmental, educational, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading governmental accounting, financial reporting, auditing, fiscal compliance, budget oversight, or financial systems administration.
  • Experience overseeing chart of accounts structures, financial data governance, accounting system modernization, audit reconciliation, internal controls, or statewide reporting processes, including interpreting and applying complex accounting standards, laws, regulations, and reporting requirements to support transparency, accountability, and high-quality financial decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience building trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders and partners, gathering and incorporating feedback, facilitating collaboration across organizations or interest groups, and achieving meaningful improvements through inclusive engagement and shared problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale projects or organizational change initiatives involving business process improvement, systems implementation, technology modernization, data integration, or cross-functional collaboration from planning through execution and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, managing, or improving data reporting systems, dashboards, business intelligence tools, performance measures, or public-facing information resources that support transparency, accountability, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching, mentoring, hiring, evaluating, and developing professional staff while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment that promotes accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the state's fiscal transparency initiatives, which are designed to provide the legislature, school districts, and the public with comprehensive access to financial data from Oregon’s public education system.
  • Oversee accounting data integration, financial reporting, and audit alignment.
  • Manage professional staff and collaborate with program leadership, IT teams, and district partners to ensure the development of accurate and accountable financial data systems, including dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Lead Oregon's K-12 financial reporting and transparency strategy.
  • Direct financial systems modernization and data governance.
  • Lead staff, partnerships, and continuous engagement and improvement efforts.
