Director of Finance- Commercial RE
About The Position
A privately owned commercial real estate investment and development company that has been building and managing properties for over 30 years is seeking a Director of Finance to help shape and lead the finance function for its growing portfolio. This is a rare opportunity to step into a highly visible role where you'll partner directly with executive leadership and help build processes, structure, and best practices from the ground up as you help them create a solid real estate division within a scaling multi-entity company. This is a newly created function within a rapidly growing organization. The company expanded quickly and is now investing in building the infrastructure and processes needed to support continued growth in their commercial real estate division.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Commercial real estate accounting experience
- 5+ years of accounting experience including LEADERSHIP
- Experience with CAM reconciliations and job costing
- Hands-on experience with Yardi
- Experience building, leading, and developing small teams
- Strong process improvement mindset and ability to implement best practices
- Authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship
Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting operations across multiple real estate entities
- Manage property accounting, property taxes, and insurance activities
- Lead CAM reconciliations across the portfolio
- Handle construction accounting for three active developments, including a major mixed-use "live/work/play" project currently underway
- Develop and manage WIP reporting, lien releases, and asset component tracking processes
- Build accounting workflows, SOPs, and financial controls for the real estate division
- Partner closely with the SVP of Asset Management to help establish and scale the finance function
- Supervise and mentor a team of 2–3 accounting professionals
- Introduce new ideas, efficiencies, and best practices to strengthen the organization
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting across all entities
- Utilize Yardi to manage accounting and property-related functions
