Director of Finance

The Suite
$150,000 - $200,000Remote

About The Position

As our Director of Finance, you'll own the full financial function for a bootstrapped, highly profitable, and rapidly growing startup building AI-native executive peer communities — from strategic planning and forecasting to the daily mechanics of close, reporting, and budgeting. With two primary revenue streams (membership fees and sponsorship) and ~500 events annually, you'll bring both the analytical rigor of a seasoned finance leader and the builder mindset of someone who automates what shouldn't require human attention. This is a department of one. You're not inheriting or building an internal team — you're owning the finance function end-to-end, leveraging outside resources as needed and reporting directly to one of our founders. That means setting the strategy, making judgment calls, and designing the systems that let the rest of the business move fast with financial confidence. We're a fully remote-first and AI-pilled team. We default to async, communicate with clarity, and automate wherever possible. You'll need to be self-directed, proactive, AI-fluent, and comfortable being the most senior finance voice in the room.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive finance experience; CPA preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior finance role at a high-growth startup - either managing the entire finance function independently, or owning a strategic piece of it directly under the CFO — this role requires strategic judgment, not just execution
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI tooling — real-world experience building workflow automations is a hard requirement
  • Strong financial modeling and FP&A chops alongside solid technical accounting fundamentals
  • Experience with (or fast ramp-up ability on) our stack: Ramp, Rillet, Justworks
  • Exceptional communicator who can translate financial complexity for non-finance colleagues and present with confidence to founders
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and a high-event-volume environment where no two months look the same
  • Self-directed and async-fluent — remote-first means you manage your own work, surface issues proactively, and don't wait to be asked

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close process in Rillet, including AP/AR, reconciliations, and consolidated financial reporting
  • Manage per-event budget tracking and reconciliation across ~500 annual events spanning a wide range of size and complexity
  • Oversee membership revenue recognition and the recurring financial rhythms of a subscription-based model
  • Coordinate payroll and headcount cost tracking in partnership with our PEO and Head of People
  • Lead expense management and policy enforcement via Ramp
  • Deliver month-end and year-end reporting packages to the founders and leadership team
  • Own financial planning and analysis: annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, scenario modeling, and cash flow management
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the founders on capital allocation, pricing decisions, and growth investments
  • Develop and maintain financial models that give leadership clear visibility into unit economics, margins, and runway
  • Identify and flag financial risks proactively — before they become problems
  • Design and deploy finance agents for recurring workflows (e.g., invoice matching, budget vs. actuals alerts, anomaly detection, close checklists)
  • Build event budget reconciliation tools the events team can use themselves, without needing to ping finance every time
  • Automate data flows between Rillet, Ramp, Justworks, Chargebee, and Google Sheets/Drive
  • Continuously expand the agent stack as the business grows and new needs emerge
  • Document your agents and workflows so the whole team can understand and maintain them
