Your Impact At M Social Sunnyvale, we’re building something exceptional from the ground up—and financial leadership will be critical to that success. We’re looking for a Director of Finance who brings both strategic vision and operational expertise to establish a strong financial foundation and drive long-term performance. Reporting to the General Manager, this role leads all finance functions, from day-to-day accounting to strategic planning and analysis. As a key member of the executive team, the Director of Finance will play a pivotal role in the pre-opening phase, setting up systems, controls, and a culture of accountability, transparency, and operational excellence from day one.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required (MBA and/or CPA strongly preferred)
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive finance or accounting experience, preferably within hospitality or multi-unit operations
  • At least 3–5 years in a senior leadership role (Director of Finance, Financial Controller, or similar)
  • Strong expertise in financial planning & analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
  • Deep knowledge of accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and month-end close
  • Proficiency in financial systems, ERP platforms, and data analytics tools
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, audits, and financial reporting standards (GAAP/IFRS)
  • Experience with hotel systems (PMS, POS) and financial reporting tools
  • Knowledge of tax compliance, risk management, and financial governance
  • Strategic thinker with strong business and financial acumen
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire high-performing teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset
  • Excellent communication and executive presence
  • Highly organized with strong project management and prioritization skills

  • Pre-opening hotel experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead Financial Strategy
  • Drive financial performance through strategic planning, forecasting, and analysis
  • Partner with the General Manager and executive team to guide decision-making and maximize profitability
  • Lead pre-opening financial initiatives, including system implementation, chart of accounts setup, and policy development
  • Own Financial Planning & Performance
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets and capital expenditure (CAPEX) plans
  • Deliver accurate forecasts and clear variance analysis
  • Monitor key performance indicators, including revenue trends, labor costs, and departmental performance
  • Oversee Accounting & Controls
  • Lead all accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Maintain strong internal controls and safeguard hotel assets
  • Manage internal and external audits and ensure compliance with corporate standards
  • Ensure Compliance & Mitigate Risk
  • Maintain compliance with financial regulations, corporate policies, and reporting requirements
  • Oversee tax filings, documentation, and audit readiness
  • Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Build & Lead the Finance Team
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing finance team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Support training, development, and succession planning
  • Partner Across Operations
  • Collaborate with Rooms, Food & Beverage, Events, and Engineering teams to support business goals
  • Provide financial guidance on pricing strategies, labor management, and purchasing decisions
  • Ensure finance processes enable efficient and seamless hotel operations
