About The Position

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, manages all aspects of accounting and compliance, supports financial planning activities, and assists in developing and maintaining internal control policies and procedures to ensure fiscal integrity and regulatory compliance in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Cozad Community Health System.

Requirements

  • Manages general accounting, budgeting, financial planning, decision support, contracting, capital markets relations, payroll, and purchasing.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, safety, and evaluation of these teams.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in accounting and/or financial management.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Finance or a related field preferred.
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • HFMA Certified Healthcare Financial Professional strongly recommended.
  • Electronic Health Records experience and management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees materials management, payroll processing, reporting, and reconciliation.
  • Reconciles retirement plan deductions and contribution reports.
  • Manages all accounting functions, including general ledger, billing, accrual accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll budgeting, tax compliance, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Oversees payments related to debt, bank loans, and other significant financial obligations.
  • Monitors cash flow and funding balances; reconcile cash accounts and ensure monthly balance accuracy.
  • Prepares and organizes monthly and annual financial statements and management reports for review by the CFO.
  • Supports month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepares financial forecasts, monitors variances, and analyzes performance against budget.
  • Provides financial analysis and recommendations to the CFO related to capital investments, pricing strategies, contract negotiations, benchmarks, significant expenditures, and cost management initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations, tax filings, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitors existing and new legislation impacting financial operations and advise management on necessary actions.
  • Submits invoices for Senior Leadership Team expenses to Accounts Payable.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of financial data, personnel information, and organizational matters in accordance with the Privacy Act and Employee Handbook.
  • Follows all HIPAA guidelines and promotes and ensures patient safety.
  • Fulfills mission statement by performing job duties with a high level of customer service while contributing to a positive and professional environment.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
