About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on, strategic financial leader to serve as our Director of Finance, overseeing all financial functions. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert financial insight, driving strategy across financial reporting, internal controls, audit, treasury, and office services. Beyond high-level financial stewardship, this is a working leadership position where you will actively manage vendor contracts, corporate assets, and organizational risk—ensuring the fiscal health and operational integrity that allow our mission to thrive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, MAcc) is an asset.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is required.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial management experience, including direct responsibility for managing a budget of $6M or larger, preferably within the Not-For-Profit sector.
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks (including classes and items) and cloud-based financial systems; knowledge of QuickBooks add-on products is a strong asset.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, complex formulas).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
  • Must reside in Ontario and be willing to work onsite at the downtown Toronto office.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings to accommodate organizational needs.
  • Ability to travel to other community-based settings as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and develop multi-year financial plans that align resources with strategic goals, ensuring long-term sustainability.
  • Oversee all financial operations (AR/AP, payroll, expense management, month-end close) and produce accurate monthly financial statements, including program vs. admin reporting and variance analysis.
  • Present quarterly financial reports to the Board and Finance & Audit Committee, translating results into actionable insights on trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop and test rigorous internal controls and financial policies; manage compliance with CRA regulations, donor restrictions, and grant agreements; and lead the annual audit process.
  • Manage treasury functions, cash flow, and banking relationships while overseeing administrative operations, including procurement, vendor contracts, insurance, and organizational assets.
  • Supervise and mentor direct reports, and partner closely with the Director of Fund Development to support grant applications, track restricted funding, and ensure accurate funder reporting.
