About The Position

Cars & Bids is seeking a Director of Finance and Operations to manage the financial and operational backbone of the company. This role is finance-centric, covering accounting, planning and analysis, HR administration, contracts, compliance, and the systems and vendors essential for business operations. The individual will be responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, performance tracking against plans, and ensuring effective operational processes and controls. This is a high-trust, high-visibility position for someone who enjoys taking ownership, brings order to complexity, and is comfortable with both detailed financial analysis and vendor management. As the senior-most finance role, it offers opportunities for expanded scope as the business grows.

Requirements

7-10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience.
Ideally, experience as the senior-most finance person or #2 in a finance function at a startup or lean environment.
Strong accounting fundamentals and experience owning or overseeing a monthly close.
Solid FP&A skills, including budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis.
Experience with HR administration, vendors, contracts, and outside professional service providers.
Strong judgment, organization, and attention to detail.
Ability to independently own a broad range of responsibilities.
Hands-on mentality and a track record of improving processes and systems.

Nice To Haves

Experience in PE-backed or investor-backed environments, including board or lender reporting.

Responsibilities

Own the monthly and annual close, working with external accounting team for accurate and timely financials.
Manage the financial model, budgeting, and forecasting, including tracking performance, identifying variances, and analyzing the outlook.
Prepare financial reporting and analysis for leadership and support board reporting.
Oversee company spending and financial controls, ensuring effective team spending and financial discipline.
Manage vendors, contracts, and renewals, coordinating with outside counsel and experts.
Handle HR administration, including payroll and benefits oversight, onboarding/offboarding, compensation changes, performance reviews, and compliance.
Manage key back-office systems, providers, and recurring obligations (PEO, insurance, tax, corporate compliance).
Continuously improve processes and controls, and contribute to projects beyond the core mandate where value can be added.
