About The Position

The Director of Finance & Accounting will oversee and lead a team to bring operational rigor to Rhino + Jetty’s Finance and Accounting organization — spanning corporate finance, FP&A, strategic finance, accounting, tax, and treasury — while supporting and refining our overall strategic planning to drive opportunities for growth. This role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on ownership of accounting operations and controllership, and will manage the corporate finance, FP&A, and strategic finance functions while building and leading our Accounting team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of combined finance and accounting experience with proven career progression, including 5+ years hands-on experience in a financial management and/or accounting operations function in a growth company
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business, finance, or a related field; CPA required
  • Proven experience recruiting, building, and managing high-performing finance and/or accounting teams
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, financial markets, economic principles, and banking
  • Ability to interact with and influence people at all levels of an organization
  • Excellent analytical skills for budgeting/forecasting combined with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to present complex information and distill financial results into concise commentary for a diverse audience
  • Organized and able to efficiently prioritize, multi-task, and adapt in a fast-paced, often-changing environment, with a focus on strategic and corporate finance ad-hoc analyses

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with insurance agencies, carrier finances, or growth/startup technology companies is a plus
  • MBA or an equivalent level of education a plus, though not required
  • Experience using analytical and reporting tools such as Tableau, NetSuite, Cube, and SQL are a plus, though not required

Responsibilities

  • Assume a leadership position across corporate finance, FP&A, and strategic finance
  • Partner and work collaboratively as a trusted advisor with the leadership team and Board of Directors on strategic initiatives, budgeting & forecasting, reporting, and operational modeling
  • Drive proactive capital planning and be responsible for driving equity, debt, and risk capital transactions, and support M&A efforts with insightful analysis and due diligence
  • Build and maintain periodic financial plans that align with the company's plan for growth and expansion
  • Provide financial and operational metrics and analytics to stakeholders including investors, the Board of Directors, employees, and management, and support proactive relations with all
  • Drive preparation and presentation of monthly financial reports to department leads, including monthly P&L, cash flow, and actuals vs. budget
  • Work closely with cross-functional department leads to measure and refine operational effectiveness in areas such as risk and reinsurance agreements and metrics, partnership deals and pipeline opportunities, and trade-off/ROI ad-hoc analysis with the Product team
  • Own the Tax function and have responsibility for various Treasury-related items
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring Rhino's reporting and financial statements comply with US GAAP
  • Maintain and document Rhino's accounting policies and procedures while continuously improving accounting methodology and processes to align with business changes
  • Own Rhino's external auditor relationship and annual audit process, inclusive of collaboration with external tax preparers and technical accounting resources
  • Ensure effective accounting and internal controls, including accounting software and supporting databases
  • Collaborate with other business stakeholders to operationalize processes impacting Accounting in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Recruit, direct, and organize the work of a high-performing Finance & Accounting team, ensuring reports receive appropriate training, career development, and performance management
  • Support executive leadership and the Board in executing special projects
