About The Position

The Director of Field Operations oversees all aspects of field operations to ensure that projects are successfully completed on time, meeting or bettering labor budgets while meeting safety and performance requirements. The Director of Field Operations directly supervises all Superintendents ensuring that all field operational procedures and performance requirements are followed. The Director of Field Operations oversees all labor resources to ensure that labor resources are maintained, assigned, retained and allocated to projects appropriately to perform work. This instrumental position uses strong leadership and communication skills to influence positive performance, change and mentorship by leading and directing the field operations team(s).

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years work experience in electrical and/or solar construction industry.
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience.
  • BS degree in engineering or other technical discipline.
  • Ability to verbally communicate: convey detailed and accurate instructions and information.
  • Ability to hear with or without correction in order to receive and interpret detailed information.
  • Required to sit at a desk work station for long periods of time.
  • Push, pull, lift, and carry at least 10 pounds.
  • Frequently required to walk and stand.
  • This position may involve infrequent site visits which will require the ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Required to have visual acuity with or without correction in order to read contract documents, analyze data, view a computer monitor, and proof-read documents to identify errors.
  • Required to use fingers and hands: type using a computer keyboard, handle, feel, and reach.
  • May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.

  • CA Professional Engineers (PE) license and/or PMP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, directs and mentors Superintendents.
  • Director level oversight of all field operations.
  • Manages overall workforce to ensure that adequate levels of manpower is maintained on projects by superintendent team.
  • Ensures that manpower levels are forecasted properly so that levels can be increased through recruitment or reduced based on company, regional and area needs.
  • Manages Manpower spreadsheet/program.
  • Proactively forecasts future manpower levels through coordination with Superintendents on active projects, and the Pre Award Department for future projects.
  • Actively communicates and coordinates within the Management team to identify future project needs relative to manpower levels as well as capabilities relative to manpower levels and skills.
  • Oversees companywide workforce development.
  • Monitors apprentice ratios companywide, regionally and by project.
  • Manages Manpower log indicating current and future manpower needs.
  • Works closely with the Human Resources Department to document and resolve field personnel issues.
  • Ensures all Field Operations policies, procedures and standards are adhered to by Superintendents and field leadership.
  • Establishes, implements and maintains field operations programs and procedures as needed to ensure successful performance.
  • Assists in the development of training programs for the improvement and development of all field personnel.
  • Assists with implementation of safety policies and training.
  • Participates in safety/incident investigations and review.
  • Works directly with the recruitment department to maintain adequate workforce levels.
  • Assists in recruitment efforts / participates in screening and interviewing candidates for key positions.
  • Monitors material procurement activities to ensure that adequate preparation and timeliness of material requisitions are made by field leadership ensuring efficiency and that material is onsite ready for installation when needed.
  • Maintain Superintendent accountability to ensure performance objectives are being met.
  • Seeks and evaluates industry trends and changes to ensure that Rex Moore is at the leading edge of construction technology as it relates to field operations, tools, techniques etc.
  • Elevated Review and Monitor labor efficiencies, hours and ratios.
  • Actively drive change and improvement that will have a meaningful impact on labor performance.
  • Hold Superintendents accountable for meeting project objectives and compliance with Forman job responsibilities.
  • Approves Foreman Project Assignment.
  • Overall Management of field workforce.
  • Approves us on Temporary Manpower.
  • Travel pay determination.
  • Approval of Foreman bonus determination.
  • Approval of Foreman classification determination.
  • Oversite and management of Tool program.
  • Oversite of Fleet assignment.
  • Oversee Prefabrication Department.
  • Identify field training needs and utilize the Workforce Development Team for assistance and implementation.
  • Create and maintain Field training calendar and content.
  • Ensure the use of field quality control measures.
  • Coach individuals on their career goals and progress.
