About The Position

The Director of Family and Community Engagement is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and oversight of family and community engagement initiatives that support student success, well-being, and meaningful partnerships between schools, families, and the community. The Director develops, implements, and evaluates strategies, systems, and structures that promote family engagement, youth development, and community collaboration aligned with the District's mission, vision, and strategic priorities. The Director oversees the Office of Family and Community Engagement and related programs, ensuring effective service delivery, operational efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Director works collaboratively with district departments, school leaders, families, community organizations, and external stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and remove barriers to student success.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in family engagement, youth development, education, community outreach, social services, or a related field, including supervisory experience.
  • New York State School District Leader (SDL) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competencies in educational leadership, program administration, and organizational management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of family engagement, youth development, community partnerships, and student support systems.
  • Experience with budget development, grant management, and fiscal oversight.
  • Knowledge and competencies in the design, implementation, management, and evaluation of programs and services.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and requirements impacting family engagement, youth development, and student support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships, facilitate collaboration, and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and strategic thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises departmental staff responsible for family and community engagement functions, establishing performance expectations, providing coaching and professional development, evaluating performance, and ensuring effective program implementation.
  • Provides leadership in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Family and Community Engagement programs and services.
  • Promotes the use of best practices, research-based strategies, and innovative approaches that strengthen family engagement, youth development, and community partnerships.
  • Develops expertise in areas impacting family engagement, student well-being, and student success, and works collaboratively with school leaders and district departments to address identified needs.
  • Engages families, school leaders, community partners, and other stakeholders in ongoing dialogue to identify barriers and develop solutions related to family engagement, communication, access to information, and support services.
  • Collaborates with district leaders and school administrators to identify and address obstacles to family and community engagement and support districtwide solutions.
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate partnerships with community organizations that provide services and resources that support student and family success.
  • Create opportunities for youth, families, and community members to provide input regarding programs, services, and initiatives that impact student achievement and well-being.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with community agencies to ensure that essential support services are available to students and families.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of community partnerships, collaborative service delivery models, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Maintains ongoing relationships with community organizations, agencies, businesses, and other stakeholders that support the District's educational mission.
  • Ensures regular evaluation of programs, services, and initiatives to support continuous improvement and informed decision-making.
  • Implements systems and structures that encourage meaningful family participation, improve communication, increase access to information, and support student success.
  • Establishes, maintains, evaluates, and continuously improves partnerships with community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, businesses, agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Organizes regular staff meetings and collaborative planning opportunities to support departmental goals and continuous improvement efforts aligned with District priorities.
  • Provides regular updates and recommendations to the Deputy Superintendent regarding departmental activities, emerging issues, program outcomes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborates with other District departments, including Grants, Accountability, Student Support Services, and Information Technology, to advance departmental objectives and improve outcomes for students and families.
  • Coordinates and facilitates communication with federal, state, county, and local agencies and stakeholders to strengthen school-community partnerships and support District initiatives.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and practices related to family and community engagement.
  • Utilizes data, technology, and continuous improvement strategies to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of departmental operations and services.
