About The Position

The Director of Facilities Engineering is responsible for the overall leadership and management of facility operations, maintenance, and engineering functions at Lenbrook Square Foundation. This role involves direct supervision of managers and indirect oversight of maintenance staff, ensuring high standards of service delivery, safety, and continuous improvement. The position requires strategic planning, budget management, compliance with regulations, and project management to maintain and enhance the campus facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field preferred or substantial experience may offset this requirement.
  • 10 years of facilities engineering experience, preferably within a large, multi-building campus or healthcare environment and with managing complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience: Proven experience leading teams of facilities staff, including managers, maintenance technicians, and contractors.
  • Experience in setting goals, managing budgets, and aligning department operations with organizational objectives is critical.
  • Experience with Aging and Modern Infrastructure: Demonstrated experience managing facilities with a mix of building ages and styles, including older structures (40+ years) that may require specialized maintenance or upgrades, as well as newer buildings with modern technology systems.
  • Regulatory and compliance knowledge including building codes, healthcare and life safety regulations, and environmental compliance (e.g., NFPA, OSHA, CMS guidelines, ADA, CARF and local codes).
  • Capital project management to include budgeting, project planning, contractor oversight, and ensuring minimal disruption to resident services.
  • Technical Expertise in Building Systems including proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
  • Sustainability and energy management.
  • Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance programs including developing and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance schedules, audits, and asset management.
  • Proficiency with CMMS Software: Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking work orders, managing inventory, and scheduling maintenance tasks.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM), LEED, or Professional Engineer (PE) license) are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with modern technology like Building Management Systems (BMS) is also advantageous.
  • Experience with Microsoft Planner could also be relevant for project planning and task management.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise two managers: a Maintenance Manager and a Facility Services Manager, with indirect oversight of maintenance technicians and call center coordinators.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining high standards of service delivery, fostering a collaborative work environment, and promoting a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor short- and long-term facility plans to ensure optimal building and system performance.
  • Oversee daily operations, preventative maintenance, and repairs across the campus, ensuring that building systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and infrastructure are properly maintained.
  • Ensure operations and maintenance manuals and standard operating procedures are up to date, accessible and adhered to.
  • Lead and implement an efficient work order system that prioritizes tasks and ensures timely completion of maintenance and repair needs.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage budgets for maintenance operations, vendor services, and projects.
  • Deploy and continuously improve energy management and sustainability initiatives to optimize utility usage and reduce costs.
  • Ensure accurate, accessible policies and playbook / procedure manuals.
  • Assist in capital improvement plans and facility upgrades to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and functionality.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, regulatory, and environmental codes, including local, state, and federal regulations (e.g. CMS, CARF, ADA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Collaborate on emergency preparedness planning, including fire safety, life safety systems, and other campus-wide safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors for major repairs, renovations, and new installations, ensuring quality and adherence to campus standards.
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits to proactively address facility needs and optimize building operations.
  • Provide regular reports on facility status, project progress, and budget performance to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support resident services, community events, and other campus activities.
