About The Position

Campland on the Bay is a full-service, destination RV Resort located in the Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego. Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Facilities Engineering administers, manages, supervises and coordinates the engineering, painting, landscaping, housekeeping, grounds, and project personnel while maintaining the RV resorts within operational standards. The Director of Facilities Engineering oversees property operations, which include but are not limited to rule enforcement, regulatory compliance, physical plant maintenance and construction, and utility infrastructure operations, as well as maintenance of the properties to be aesthetically pleasing, environmentally safe and guest friendly. This position has a dotted reporting line to the Regional Director of Engineering in Orange County. This is a full-time, exempt managerial position with comprehensive benefits.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent or completion of trade school required.
  • 5 years of hotel/motel facility maintenance and management experience required.
  • Hands-experience on RV Resort preferred.
  • Direct experience with key trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, heavy equipment operation, etc.) required.
  • Engineering/physical plant maintenance expertise.
  • Basic construction skills.
  • Knowledge of safe use and operations of common maintenance and construction tools and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of plan layout and schematic reading, utilities and distribution systems and layouts.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively follow and issue instructions.
  • Ability to assess critical and/or emergency situations timely and correctly implement necessary actions.
  • Knowledge and ability to interact with governmental agencies for code and enforcement processes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with guests, clients, management and personnel.
  • Proven leadership experience with effective problem-solving, decision-making and sound judgment, as well ability to lead by example and motivate team members.
  • Intermediate knowledge and skills in computer programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Valid California driver’s license with demonstrated good driving record.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays and occasional evenings, including responding to emergencies after hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Marina maintenance experience a plus.
  • General Contractor license a plus.
  • Architectural and design experience preferred.
  • Experience using GANTT charts and/or scheduling/tasking tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of Facilities Engineer, Landscape Manager, Housekeeping/Grounds Manager, Painters and Seasonal Project Personnel.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of engineering, landscape, housekeeping, grounds, project departments, contractors and vendors.
  • Develop, implement and enforce department SOPs in compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Partner with the General Manager, Regional Director of Engineering, and Facilities Engineer in reviewing and updating SOPs.
  • Ensure engineering/maintenance projects are scoped, scheduled and timely implemented, within budget and per specifications.
  • Ensure all systems, electrical, plumbing, irrigation and utilities are mapped as instructed, and all repairs are mapped accurately upon completion of any repairs.
  • Ensure that facility operations comply with all federal, state, county and city laws, rules and regulations, ordinances and requests.
  • Review and update all licenses, contracts, service agreements, and permits pertaining to property operations.
  • Perform periodic inspections and addresses safety issues promptly.
  • Provide frequent training to reinforce safe work practices.
  • Maintain safety records as required.
  • Updates the General Manager of any safety issues or violations.
  • Consult with the Regional Director of Engineering as needed.
  • Maintain inventory control procedures and ensure that policies are followed.
  • Prepare expense and capital improvement budget submittals.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Director of Engineering on complex capital improvement or maintenance projects involving utilities.
  • Monitor expense accounts to stay with budget constraints and reports any variances.
  • Interact with guests, government inspectors, and other government representatives for scheduled and unscheduled visits.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws.
  • Interview, hire and train employees; plan, assign and direct work; appraise performance; address complaints and resolve issues; reward and discipline employees; conduct departmental staff meetings.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
