About The Position

The Director of Facilities and Safety Officer will lead facilities operations across Thompson Health, encompassing maintenance, plant operations, biomedical engineering, real estate, groundskeeping, environmental services, safety, and construction management. The primary goal is to ensure a safe and reliable environment that supports exceptional patient care and service, while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and Environment of Care standards. This role involves developing and implementing strategic and operational plans that align with Thompson Health’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Valid New York State driver’s license to operate facility vehicles.
  • New York State Department of Labor Contractor/Supervisor Asbestos Certificate, or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Strong technical expertise, leadership, communication, and coaching skills, with the ability to work independently, analyze complex situations, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Adaptability, initiative, and a commitment to continuous learning, teamwork, and excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current Certified Hospital Facility Manager (CHFM) certification through the American Hospital Association.

Responsibilities

  • Lead facilities operations across Thompson Health, including maintenance, plant operations, biomedical engineering, real estate, groundskeeping, environmental services, safety, and construction management.
  • Ensure a safe, reliable environment that supports exceptional patient care and service.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and Environment of Care standards.
  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned with Thompson Health’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams through clear communication, coaching, training, recognition, and accountability.

  • Apply strong technical knowledge and sound judgment to maintain safe, reliable facilities and support effective maintenance, plant operations, construction, and the health system’s Environment of Care.
  • Translate organizational priorities into actionable plans, anticipate future needs, and respond effectively to changing operational demands.
  • Manage budgets, staffing, and resources responsibly; monitor productivity and performance; and evaluate investments to improve efficiency and value.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance, establish effective policies and procedures, and use data and best practices to identify risks, resolve problems, and improve services.
  • Build productive relationships with associates, leaders, patients, and external partners.
