About The Position

Saint Peter School on Capitol Hill is seeking a Director of Extended Care to oversee all daily operations of their before-care, after-care, and enrichment programs. This role involves program leadership, student supervision, staff management, family communication, safety and compliance, and administrative responsibilities. The Director will be responsible for creating an engaging and safe environment for students, managing staff, and ensuring smooth program operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Recreation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience working with school-age children
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Background clearance as required by school and local regulations
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all daily operations of the before-care, after-care, and enrichment programs.
  • Source and onboard local enrichment providers for after school activities.
  • Create and monitor registration forms and communicate with families about registrations.
  • Develop and maintain age-appropriate schedules, routines, and enrichment activities.
  • Ensure smooth student check-in/check-out procedures and accurate attendance tracking.
  • Establish and maintain program policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor program quality and continuously improve offerings.
  • Provide daily, active supervision to ensure student safety, well-being, and positive behavior.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students.
  • Design engaging recreational, academic, and enrichment activities.
  • Support students’ social-emotional growth through positive behavior guidance and conflict resolution.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate extended care staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and professional development to staff.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing ratios are always maintained.
  • Lead regular staff meetings to promote consistency and program excellence.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding extended care.
  • Communicate program registrations, billing, updates, expectations, and student concerns clearly and professionally.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents and guardians.
  • Address concerns and resolve issues promptly and thoughtfully.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and applicable licensing/regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain emergency procedures, incident reporting, and health/safety protocols.
  • Administer first aid or coordinate emergency response when needed.
  • Ensure secure release of students to authorized caregivers only.
  • Manage registration, enrollment, attendance, and billing records.
  • Track program supplies and oversee purchasing within budget guidelines.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Coordinate with school administration on program planning and resource allocation.
