About The Position

The Museum of Art is seeking a professional and motivated Director of Exhibitions to join our team! This position serves as overall director of the NCMA exhibition program and supporting staff, overseeing the departments of Exhibition Management, Exhibition Design, and Art Services. This position also works closely with the Collections Department to ensure the safe care, handling, and installation of temporary exhibition loans. Position oversees the coordination of all departments involved with exhibition planning, design, art movement and care, temporary and permanent loans, exhibition production, including organizing team meetings among departments, and ensuring that all exhibitions and installations maintain the Museum’s high standard of quality and aesthetics, align with the curatorial vision, and support interpretive strategies and the 2026-2030 strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university, with a concentration in art history
  • Five years of experience in an art museum or equivalent setting
  • Equivalent combination or education and experience

  • Demonstrated experience working at an art museum.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating exhibitions.
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role.

Responsibilities

  • Managing all departments involved with exhibition, special projects, and People’s Collection installation planning and production.
  • Compiling and maintaining the master exhibition schedule of approved and proposed exhibitions, as well as rotations and managing all traveling exhibitions.
  • Planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating all non-curatorial aspects of temporary exhibitions and art installations including preparing long-range exhibition plans.
  • Managing contracts related to exhibitions (drafting, editing, and negotiating contracts for exhibitions organized by NCMA and reviewing contracts for exhibitions held at NCMA but organized by other institutions).
  • Working with the Advancement and Marketing teams to review all information for public release on exhibitions.
