About The Position

The Chicago Marriott O’Hare is looking for a Director of Engineering to join this awesome team! Previous hotel engineering, management/supervisory experience and Marriott Hotels experience strongly preferred. The Director of Engineering will be responsible for managing the physical property/equipment, life safety systems, and engineering team while supporting the overall success of the hotel operations.

Requirements

  • 4 years’ experience in hotel engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or 2 year degree from an accredited university/trade school in building and construction, engineering, mechanics, or related major.
  • Previous Management/Supervisory experience.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner
  • Must be able to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance at times.
  • Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the physical property including, but not limited to the operating equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, & life safety systems at optimum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Manage the engineering budget.
  • Supervise the engineering team and day-to-day operations of the department.
  • Effectively plan, schedule, manage, and evaluate the preventative maintenance program.
  • Ensure compliance with all Engineering/hotel policies, standards & procedures.
  • Manage the department controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Research pricing, order/purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings as needed and/or budgeted.
  • Inspect & evaluate the physical condition of the facilities in order to determine the type of work required.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records, as required.
  • Establish priorities for total property maintenance needs.
  • Ensure on-going communication with the engineering team to create awareness of business objectives, expectations, and recognition of exemplary performance.
  • Utilize interpersonal & communication skills to lead, influence, & encourage others; advocate sound financial/business decision making; demonstrate honesty/integrity; lead by example.
  • Set a positive example for employee relations.
  • Solicit employee feedback, utilize an “open door” policy and review employee results to identify and address employee problems or concerns.
  • Conduct departmental meetings and continually communicate a clear and consistent message regarding the department goals to produce desired results.
  • Superb time management skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of projects while staying organized.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
