About The Position

Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering and Facilities, the Director of Engineering manages and directors the day-to-day operation and activities of the Facilities and Engineering Department. The Director of Engineering is responsible to maintain the highest standards of engineering service delivery, maintain the physical plant, buildings, and grounds at or better than design conditions, and maintain compliance with governing code and ECSS’s regulators. The Director models a culture of safety, regulatory compliance and service excellence and is responsible for the leadership, training, direction, supervision, evaluation, hiring, coaching and counseling of the Engineering and Facilities team. The position requires an on‑site schedule of five days per week and may include weekends and off-hour duties. The Director of Engineering is to maintain on call readiness 24/7, respond to the facility when needed, and be able to execute operational adjustments to mitigate adverse situations. The Director operates as a member of the Engineering and Facilities Department team. Other team members include the Director of Safety & Security, Director of Engineering (White Plains), and Director of Environmental Servicers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree from an accredited university.
  • 5 years related field experience minimum, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft office applications.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the company which includes a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Understands ESCC’s Mission and Core Values and incorporates values into daily practice.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Engineering Department, its programs, and activities.
  • Take direct responsibility for diagnosis and repair of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and architectural systems.
  • Develops preventative maintenance tasks for plant and building equipment. Manages and implements the preventive maintenance system and tracks and trends work orders in order to meet the needs of the facility, to measure productivity and gauge code compliance.
  • Maintains equipment and testing protocols to the minimum standard for which the authority having jurisdiction requires. This includes NY and Westchester DOH, Yonkers Building Department, NY State Code, CMS, OSHA, EPA and others that are applicable.
  • Develop, maintain, edit Policy Books and various Management Plans.
  • Takes direct responsibility for the Engineering Department staffing and works with Management as necessary to ensure equitable standards are maintained, union contract compliance, and staffing levels are adequate to meet the organizational needs.
  • Develops plans and maintains redundancy in critical areas to ensure service delivery. Ensure self-sufficiency and disaster resistance when faced with both internal and external emergencies.
  • Conduct monthly environmental rounds of the facility including grounds and all areas. Prepare reports concerning results and these rounds and work in general that are useful to management.
  • Ensure staff are performing assigned tasks in accordance with proper maintenance and code standards.
  • Develop and provide regular training sessions for staff on monthly basis.
  • Promote employee engagement by active listening and responding to concerns, and involving staff in decision-making. Support service excellence by promoting the Core Values in everyday operations.
  • Provides coaching and counseling of employees as necessary and in accordance with HR policies and procedures as well as union guidelines.
  • Ensure that adequate levels of supplies are available so the department can perform maintenance functions without delay and handle supply disruptions.
  • Develop and maintain Policy and Procedure as required for various departmental activities. Manual should be updated and singed off by VPFE annually.
  • Participate in and prepare reports for Safety Committee and Management.
  • Regularly monitor utilities and make recommendations for reliability, redundancy, and cost savings.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and annual competencies on all employees.
  • Prepare and maintain compliance with annual Operating and Capital budgets.
  • Complete Capital and Special Projects as assigned.
  • Negotiate, monitor, prepare, and complete vendor service contracts consistent with ESCC policy.
