The Okta Workflows team aims to accelerate automation for everyone by building a user-facing, "no-code" platform that empowers customers to solve complex identity and business process challenges without writing code. This product is a critical part of Okta's Identity Orchestration strategy, providing a powerful, flexible, and intuitive way to connect identity to any application or system. The team uses modern technologies like React, Typescript, and Node.js on a large-scale, multi-cloud (AWS and GCP) Kubernetes environment. As the Director of Engineering for Workflows Experiences, you will be a key leader in defining the future of Identity Orchestration at Okta. This high-impact, high-visibility role involves leading, growing, and inspiring engineering teams responsible for building the entire user-facing experience of the Okta Workflows platform, encompassing both strategic product direction and operational excellence to help customers automate without code.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in software development, with a proven track record of leading high-performing engineering organizations, including experience managing other managers.
  • A strong technical background leading teams that build both complex user interfaces (e.g., React, Typescript) and scalable backend services (e.g., Node.js).
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with product and design counterparts to build and execute a long-term, customer-focused roadmap.
  • Exceptional coaching and mentoring skills, with a passion for developing engineering talent at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a large, globally distributed organization.
  • U.S. Citizen as defined in 42 U.S. Code § 9102; a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3). U.S. nationals (i.e. includes citizens and non-citizens born in outlying possessions such as American Samoa and Swains Island), green card holders, refugees, and asylees. Working on a U.S. visa does NOT qualify as a U.S. person.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, recruit, and mentor multiple teams of engineers, architects and engineering managers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and psychological safety.
  • Partner closely with senior leaders in Product Management and Design to define a compelling product vision and execute a multi-year roadmap.
  • Drive the technical strategy for the Workflows user experience, ensuring we are building a secure, scalable, reliable, and intuitive platform on modern technologies like React, Node.js, and Kubernetes.
  • Own and manage the operational rhythm of your organization, establishing metrics and processes to ensure engineering excellence and predictable delivery.
  • Represent your teams and strategy in senior leadership forums and company-wide reviews, translating technical progress into data-driven narratives.
  • Partner with finance teams to manage budget cycles and control costs for your groups.
  • Build strong relationships with other engineering leaders and stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment and drive complex, cross-functional projects to completion.
  • Driving strategic adoption of AI tooling and automation within engineering processes to unlock velocity improvements.
